My Stiletto Collection vs. The Doctor…This Could Get Ugly

If you know me, you know my love of a sexy stiletto. I can’t count the numerous heels I own, but last time I attempted, it was around 100. I wore heels during both pregnancies, while I worked all day in the salon and even in high school. I cannot express my love enough for a sassy shoe.

About six months ago I noticed something on my foot…and it hurt. I put off calling the doctor because I just knew what he’d say. I didn’t want to hear that I would have to put my heels away for something more *gasp* practical.

Well, the time has come that I finally sucked it up and went to the doctor. Here’s a little piece of our conversation:

“Mrs. Bennett, great to see you again,” the doctor says as he walks in the door.

“Listen, I know you’re going to tell me I need surgery.” I didn’t even say hello back. “I know you’re going to tell me my heels caused my foot problem and I don’t care. Just schedule the surgery, let’s get it over with so I can get back to my shoes.”

After a moment of silence, he busted out laughing.

“Well,” the doctor said, still grinning. “I’m not going to talk you out of those shoes am I?”

I followed his gaze down to my black and silver stilettos and shook my head. “Nope. If I have to have surgery every few years, then so be it. I refuse to buy ugly shoes.”

He slapped my folder on the counter and smiled. “Well, then, that was easy.”

So, after I set him straight, he made me an appointment with a surgeon. I’ll be going there on Tuesday. I’m sure I’ll have to be as blunt with this new doctor. My other doctor knows how stubborn I am so he wasn’t wasting his time arguing.

I hate to be so stubborn, but there are just some things I will not budge on and my shoe collection is one of them. I only buy heels for special occasions (ie: when my girls were born, when I sell another book, when I have a release, when I hit a milestone, etc). So in my defense, each pair holds a memory.

Okay, that’s pushing it, but I seriously refuse to clear out my arsenal of shoes and switch to something like…tennis shoes! I do own tennis shoes, but they are strictly for workouts. 🙂

So, do you have something you’re just as passionate about? Is there something in your life you won’t budge on? I’ll give a signed copy of my latest Harlequin Desire release WHATEVER THE PRICE to one person who leaves a comment!

I love to look at high heels, just wish I could wear them ( safely, lol). Let’s see….something I’m passionate about. It would have to be books! I cannot quit buying them. Paperbacks, ebooks… I just love all of them! Hopefully, a doctor will never tell me to give those up!!! 😉 😉 😛

Hi Jules. For me its Little Debbie snack cakes. Have to have my Zebra cakes at night. My husband calls them my crack. 🙂

When I worked at the bank, I wore heels and loved them. Still do but now as a stay at home mom, I just look at them in my closet. 🙁

Books! It’s an illness, lol. I love heels but just can’t get my knees and ankles to tolerate them any longer so I live with my vertically challenged height and admire (and shake my head at) you lovely ladies who are still able to wear them.

Jewelry. I love jewelry! I have a jewelry chest that is overflowing. A hanging bag in my closet that is full. My nightstand has a dozen jewelry boxes in it. I have a shelf in my closet with 25-30 jewelry boxes stacked on it and a little bowl on top of my nightstand with a handful of loose pieces in it. They are my security blanket when I go out and they are so pretty. I buy anywhere from Kmart to QVC. You are right in the fact that they have memories. Vacation, holidays, weddings, etc. whenever something happens, I love to buy a piece of jewelry and over 20+ years that is a lot of jewelry.

I love the look of heels, but I can’t wear them. I am tall and its really hard to find a guy taller than me anyway! LOL I have often wondered how people can wear them all day! I can wear them for an hour or two, but that is all. LOL
I love jewelry too but don’t have alot of it. I had to sell most all of my good jewelry so that is sad. I like to make it.
Ebooks, jeans and boots are my weakness! I love boots!!
Look forward to reading this book!

I used to be like you are with high heels. I had a really glorious, beautiful, lovely,…..you get the picture…collection. I fought it for a while but I finally had to give them up for “sensible” shoes when every doctor and physical therapist agreed that I just shouldn’t wear them anymore. I have a back problem that is permanent (I fell down a flight of stairs). Of course, I still have a couple of pairs that I break out once in a while. I always hurt after I wear them but sometimes you just have to deal with it! Good luck with your surgery! jepebATverizonDOTnet

The only thing I can think of is books. I would go crazy without being able to read. I love the look of heels, but due to blood clots and a bad back & hip, there is no way I could wear them. Besides, I am not graceful enough for them, lol. I did wear them in my teens, had a favorite pair of high-healed boots that I wore often even to school. But that was almost 20 years ago, lol.

Sadly I cannot wear heals…I was in a car accident that crushed my knee and ankle. I have too many pins/ plates and screws holding them together that the doctor warned me away from them. I did do some plateform boots here and there. I do notice the day after I wear them. I feel it badly. But I do find some pretty cool flats that I like.
I have a friend that feels the same way you do about her heels. She wont give them up either. She has had a few surgeries because of it and she pretty much said the same thing. I laugh at her some days… i caught her in bright red heals and pjs on….it was funny to see.

I’m slowly working my way back into heels. SO, what do I do??? 2 pair of 4 1/2 inchers!! LOL! One pair is a wedge, the other isn’t. Wedge so far is easier to walk in. We shall see!!! Not sure some in my area are REALLY ready to see a lady MY size now standing almost 6′ 3″. :p :p :p
