A Question…
Friday, January 18th, 2013

I’m still fighting the flu. Yesterday and today I have managed to make it out of bed, but my joints ache, so my fingers hurt when I’m typing. Go figure. I know, wah-wah! I’m such a baby. No writing all week, and it means I’m going to miss a deadline, which scares me, but not enough to chase away this cruddy infection. I hope y’all aren’t having to deal with it. My SIL and my mother were hit last night. My mother at least had a flu shot, so hopefully she won’t be laid low for long.

So, while I toddle off to wrap up in a warm blanket, answer me this…

What high school class do you wish you’d taken or paid more attention to?

I’m thinking about this because I had the chance to take typing, but turned up my nose. And when I entered the military, I was very glad I couldn’t type. Back then, women were often shunted toward admin jobs, despite their training. The first time my commander asked me to type a letter for him, I did the old single digit hunt and peck to find the keys of the typewriter. He never asked again.

However, here I am—a writer. And I only use three fingers on either hand to type. I’m wondering how much faster I could be if I’d taken that class…

So your turn now!

I wish I had taken Spanish. I took French in high school and still remember some, but I had to take Spanish to get my Business Degree (who knew) and just learned enough to pass the classes now I wish I knew Spanish because so many people speak it and it would be great to be bi-lingual.

I wish I had paid attention in Home Economics. The teacher tried to teach us to cook but I didn’t pay attention. The first time I made Mac & Cheese I had to read the directions on the box! I have learned to cook of the years but still can’t do anything complicated.

I am sitting here trying to think about what class I wish I had done or done better in but it’s difficult! 🙁
I think it would have to be to do all of them again better because I didn’t really consider how important and valuable they would bf in my work life and now it’s to late! 🙁 🙁 xxx

I wanted to take Home Ec. in high school but I was college prep and they couldn’t fit Home Ec. into my schedule. I went on to college and have a great job but I still don’t cook well nor do I sew…two things that I use everyday. (My mom still sews for me, Thank God!)

Definitely typing class. I took the class, but the teacher stood behind me elling, “Concetrate class. Keep your eyes on the paper and CONCENTRATE!” I am not a touch typist to this day and I am an admin, so not a good thing. 😆

I have thought about this for a bit and I think grammar would be the top and also typing. It’s funny but I also didn’t want to take those type of classes because I didn’t want to be doing what women was expected to do. Also might have been put in the office of my commanders in the army if I could have typed. I was lucky enough to have an MOS that was high in demand. I was a radio repair person and so was needed to stay in the position I was in.

I’m a single digit hunt and pecker myself. I wish I had taken typing.

I wish I’d taken choir. I love singing but I was too chicken to put myself out there. Typing and grammar were good places to hide for me. 🙂

I took typing but I already knew how to type. I taught myself when I was younger on my mothers old typewriter. I should have learned proper grammar but I ignored all that which I regret now.

So sorry you have the flu. It is a nasty one that came this year. I had it and it lasted three weeks!

Yes, you would be able to type faster if you’d taken a typing class. I learned on a manual typewriter (can you believe it?!) and progressed to electrics…then the transition to a computer was easy and quick. But…I’ve heard some writers still use longhand even…so just do what you must to do what you want to do. It’ll turn out fine…witness your book writing rep to date! 😉

Sorry, I went on and on a moment ago and didn’t really answer your question. What class do I wish I’d paid more attention to in high school? None. I was in high school “back in the day” when we were in school from 8 am until 3 pm five days a week…and we even had home economics classes! I had a university prep schedule and took everything I could get my hands on…didn’t miss a thing.

Web design. I just did not see the point at that time in my life. Now… I wished I had. A friend of mine does it for a living and makes a killing off from it. And she does it from her home.

🙁 Sorry to hear you are still sick. My daughter was so bad she had to finally get a gammagloblin(sp?) shot (big needle, thick medicine that leaves a not for a long time). She is getting better now.

In high school I took everything they would let me, even if I had to drop out of another class to take it – that happened once. My regret had to do with my school being a little behind the times and we didn’t have advanced classes and had strict requirements for a large number of classes. When I enlisted they wanted me in computers and this was when they were a thing of the future, not the norm.

    Get well soon! 😉

I’m reading so many regrets! And you’re all making me want to find a typing class or buy a Rosetta Stone package! 🙂 Thanks for playing!

The only classes that I didn’t probably take enough of was science class, you’ll hate me I usually got straight A’s. I loved school especially my Math and History classes. I took hard classes and was 8th in my class, I know you hate me.
