The sixth story in my Uncharted SEALs series released today! And it’s the first of three planned stories centered around a cruise ship, hence the special cruise ship icon on the cover.
Several of my SEAL stories have been set in the Caribbean. Why? I love the ocean, love islands, and I’ve traveled in the Caribbean—aboard cruise ships. Why not share a glimpse of my experiences? Write what you know is a mantra authors hear all the time. Two of my Adventure Girl stories were set in the Caribbean as well.
Here’s what this story is about:
Navy SEAL, William “Wiley” Coyote, should have known his “piece of cake” assignment would go sideways in a hurry. But he’d been lured by the promise of an all-expenses-paid cruise. A nice “fluffy” assignment after the last one spent escorting freighters through pirate-infested waters in the Strait of Hormuz.
A general’s daughter, Poppy Shackleford, isn’t some spoiled daughter of a man made famous for defeating insurgent forces. She’s endured her own tragedies—the loss of her mother when she was young and her father stationed in Afghanistan, and the loss of her fiancé after he sustained wounds in Iraq. Not from the physical wounds that claimed his legs—he took his own life. His death is why Poppy is involved in Soldiers’ Sanctuary, a non-profit that helps disabled soldiers adjust to their new circumstances. Which is why, despite the current threats against her father, she’s on this cruise assessing the ship’s ability to accommodate the soldiers, rather than sending a surrogate.
However, the first threat doesn’t come from terrorists with an ax to grind. Mexican banditos stop her tour bus heading toward Mayan ruins to shake down the passengers for their money and belongings. When one snaps a picture of her, he soon figures out there’s a much bigger payday. She knows she’s going to be kidnapped, but she doesn’t know someone is on that same tour bus who has her back.
Wiley’s unconventional takedown of her would-be kidnappers exposes the fact her father didn’t honor her wishes to fly under the radar. And now that the cat’s out of the bag, Wiley’s moving into her suite for the rest of their time at sea to keep her out of harm’s way.
Because I’m happy today, and I’d love to make several other someones happy, I’ll give away a free copy of the one of the previous stories in the series (other than Through Her Eyes) to THREE LUCKY WINNERS. Just tell me whether you’ve been on a cruise and where you sailed. And if you haven’t had the pleasure, where would you like to sail?

Don’t enter me.
Hubby and I went on our first cruise last fall – to Cozumel. Then we went on one from Hawaii to Vancouver B.C. Now we’re going on another one next month to Grand Caymen and Cozumel. In March we’re going to Labadee, San Juan, St. Maarten and St. Kitts. It took us a long time to go on our first cruise so now we are making up for it! 🙂

I love to cruise! My favorite destination is Cozumel, Mexico. I’ve been to Key West, and the Caymans! I would love to have Baby It’s You please. In mobi form.

I would love to take a cruise, but have not had the pleasure yet. There are several destinations that come to mind: A cruise of the Mediterranean would be first on the list, hitting the Greek Isles and Sicily. Then, I think an Alaskan cruise to watch the whales would be next. Then, as a throw back to my beloved “Love Boat” watching days, a cruise through the Orient. Big dreams and a small coin purse, but I hope it happens one day!

I haven’t read any of this series – yet – but it sounds interesting. Will have to add it to the list. Thank you.
Cruise? Haven’t done that yet either. Well nothing more than a dinner cruise anyway. Did one of those out of San Pedro California on an old three masted “pirate” ship. You know – one of those “three hour tours.” That was fun. But for a trip where I would actually spend the night – well I would love to do the Alaskan cruise. Or the the Bahama’s cruise. Or the Italy cruise. Or maybe around the Greek isles. Maybe I will just check out the thing about going on cruises instead of the retirement home.

I’ve never been on a cruise, though my sister and I keep talking about it. Well, she talks about it. I’m more of a destination person (and then drive to see more destinations). 🙂

My mum loves river cruising and I have accompanied her on three cruises – all in Europe. Two were in summer and one was a winter/Christmas tour. I enjoyed the Christmas one the best – loved all of the Christmas markets and the smells, sounds and atmosphere!

I have been on two separate cruises. One to Alaska and the other to Baja California, Mexico. I enjoyed them very much.

We’ve done a repositioning cruise from San Diego to Vancouver and also one around the Eastern Caribbean. I’ve learned your experience greatly depends on which cruise line you are with. We loved the Holland America cruise !! The other cruise not so much !
Comment
I haven’t been. I would like anywhere warm.

My late husband an I took three cruises, all to the Baja because we enjoyed them so much. We did it as frequently as we could afford to knowing he was going to be on dialysis and wanted to grab freedom while we could! Never did get to do our Panama cruise ????

My friend in high school always used to make fun of my voice; he said I sounded like Marge Simpson. So one year I went as her. I made her hair by gluing cotton balls to poster board. But it was so damn heavy I barely wore it.
