Story Game
Let’s get this party started!
I bought this little brainstorming tool years ago at some writers’ conference. I’ve used it only a few times—here! “Story Cubes” is a brainstorming game. You roll the dice and whatever pictures appear, face-up, are the ones you use to riff off a story.
Here’s the roll…
To make this fun, I’ll offer a prize—a $5 Amazon gift card to the winner!
Have fun with this! Don’t overthink it!

One day I was walking along the shoreline and found an entrance to a cave… being curious I decided to look inside… it was not very big, but I found inside a bunch of interesting toys… some local kids must have left them behind… among them were a cute rubber snake, a wind up plastic crab, some fake glasses, a tiny little circus tent, a toy ladder, a dolly’s backpack, and a toy sheriff’s badge… I can imagine all of the fun the children have with these toys and their imaginations!

Her mind was as scrabbled as the thoughts in her head.

She reached into her backpack and found a crab.

Swiper swiped Dora’s backpack but was horrified to discover that instead of a handy map, it was full of… a snake, a crab, and some giant amoeba thing with legs! He knew he should have left well enough alone! Tossing the bag aside, he shot down the ladder and took off toward the circus tent in the distance, when instead he ran headlong into the sheriff, knocking his glasses to the ground. “Stop, Swiper!” he heard as he ran for his cave hideout…

Rosy was excited to visit the sideshow tent. As she paid the barker and entered, she grabbed her glasses out of her backpack so she wouldn’t miss any details. She was fascinated by the sword swallower and the strong man. An albino python in one cage was twisting itself up and down a ladder, its body rippling with muscle. She noticed another enclosure that was a bit darker, making it hard to distinguish the occupant. She saw what looked like a short person sitting there. On closer observation, she saw movement and the “person” turned towards her, revealing itself to be a large protazoan-like entity in a fright wig. As she watched, froze in place, a crab crawled out from under the wig and she screamed for help. As everything started to go black, all she could see was the shiny star on the chest of the man who broke her fall.
