UPDATE: The winner is…Mary Preston!
*~*~*
So, I have to share something really funny and exciting!
If you’ve been following me online for any time at all, you know I’ve shared about my different hobbies now and then. I mean, I make jewelry and I do mixed media art. I’m not particularly spectacular at any of it, but I do make some wearable shit, some cool refurbished boxes, and some art you can hang in the bathroom.
Anyway, I belong to a local art guild with some really, really accomplished artists who make me feel like a newbie/no-nothing (not them, they’re really nice) when I see what they can produce. Some of them make their living as artists.
So, our little town is holding a festival this fall, and it’s being billed as an “Arts Festival” with artists from all over the region being invited. The artists’ work has to be “juried”, meaning experts look at samples of your work and decide whether you’re good enough to be a part of the event.
I thought why not try. I’ve never gone through the process. I might learn something. I submitted in two categories: Jewelry and Painting. I figured maybe I’d get through on jewelry because I’ve been doing it longer, and I do have samples of more intricate stuff—wire-wrapping, leather, etc. Anyway, I got an email the other day. I was accepted for…PAINTING.
First, I laughed hysterically. Then I told me daughter, and her eyes got wide. “Mom, you have to start painting now!” Because, you know, I don’t have a lot of goodish pieces to offer.
But now, you know what I’ll be doing this summer during my free time (when I’m not writing books!!!).
The puzzle below is a picture of one of the pieces that got me approved. Have fun with the puzzle. Then share a little story about something that caught you by surprise—a blue-ribbon at the fair, a compliment on a piece of furniture you refurbed—anything like that. You’ll be entered to win a $5 Amazon gift card!

Congrats! I like it… kinda reminds me of a patchwork quilt.
Recently, I tried making a chocolate mousse cake… it turned out really good… my mom especially loved it!

Colleen! I can’t cook worth a darn, so a chocolate mousse cake is one of my favorite things ever to eat when I’m out!

And yes, it was meant to look like a patchwork quilt. 🙂

I love it, I am not a quilter but I make my own version using old t-shirts, concerts, sports etc, cutting out the picture and sewing on a sheet front and back then put a blanket between and sew it closed, instant quilt, well not that fast,

3:52 – I used to just give my knit-wares away to family and friends. So many compliments that I started to sell them on the internet. A happy surprise.

I am not a baker. One Valentine’s Day I decided to try this recipe. It was a chocolate two layer heart shaped cake with whipped cream filling and a chocolate ganache over it. My husband refused to believe I made it. It looked so good and tasted so good. Finally after I showed him the recipe he believed I had made it. 😂😂

I won a Blue Ribbon for a cross stitch picture of an ethereal angel holding the earth at a fair in Plant City FL back in the mid 90’s. I was thrilled!

My neighbors house is extremely close to mine, what caught me by surprise is at 10pm at night I heard this motor outside of my bedroom window and they were actually pressure washing their house. I may have to seriously think about moving my bedroom. Welcome new neighbors.

Yay, Delilah–it’s beautiful!
A recent surprise–an author included a signed copy of her recent release when I was blessed enough to win one of her contests! I was over the moon!!

2:49 – one of my fastest times but I think this puzzle had fewer pieces?
Congrats! I love going to art shows/festivals and I love your artwork. I was thrilled when you included one of your “doodles” when I won a signed book from you a year or so ago.
I’m always surprised, and thrilled, when an author quotes one of my reviews in their newsletter/advertising, etc. It makes the time I spend doing reviews feel even more rewarding.

How exciting to be chosen to participate. Have fun.
I find that life itself can be quite surprising. One never knows what it will throw at you. Like Having a favorite author publish a line from of my review on the cover of their book. Or having them dedicate a book to you. Awesome feeling. Getting a thank you note from the organization you donated a stack of afghans to. An old friend contacts you begging for your hand made socks after years of no contact. So many things come out of the blue. Isn’t life awesome?

I entered a contest on the radio once to standon a stage and crow like a rooster at a small town fair. I was young and thought…why not. I actually won the portable TV for the best crow….lol.
