Thanksgiving Leftovers (Puzzle-Contest)

UPDATE: The winner is…Liddy!
*~*~*

So, funny story. My daughter and I decided to buy a VERY small turkey for the feast because we really hate the endless leftover turkey that has to be dealt with. We bought a 9-pound turkey. Yes, they do exist! But what’s funny is that when we thawed it and removed the plastic wrapping, we discovered how they made it weigh so little. NO LEGS OR WINGS. Or innards in the little plastic pouch. Yeah. But hey, the turkey was delicious, and we only have two days of meat to finish off. Actually, it was the least dry turkey I’ve ever eaten.

We make Bobbies. It’s Thanksgiving on a bun! Who knew that cranberry sauce would be good on a bun?!

In my family, turkey tetrazzini was the first dish made from leftovers after Thanksgiving (or any other turkey feast).

This year, since the two of us shared a 14.32 pound beast AND I now have a lovely little Carey pressure canner, I’m stuffing jars with various elements for future meals. Hot turkey sandwich futures are meat and gravy. Full meals contain meat, stuffing and gravy. It’s nice not to be under pressure to consume it quickly before it spoils. The chickens would prefer we share, but they got the carcass.

I actually have 2 favorite dishes for leftovers. One is turkey salad. The other is turkey breast cut up, covered in mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce (turkey parm much like chicken Parm). Add a little spaghetti and this is a great meal.

As an adult, I do not eat leftovers and therefore try to cook proper amounts for all in attendance. However, as a child my mom would use the leftovers from Thanksgiving and make a turkey- shepherd’s pie. We (my brothers and I) loved when she put the cheese in each layer. there was also the homemade turkey potpie with fresh crust that was the perfect flakiness to go with the tender juiciness of the turkey. Thanks for the nostalgia.

I certainly have some great ideas for next year’s leftovers. Bobbies! Canned turkey! Turkey tetrazinni! Thanks, all, for playing!
