UPDATE: The winner is…Donna Antonio!
*~*~*
Yes, it’s a holiday! Obscure, for sure—but not to us Sci-Fi nerds!
My love of science fiction began with Lost in Space and Star Trek. Of course. My parents had just bought our first color TV when Star Trek began, and we watched the change from black and white to color with Lost in Space.
When COVID started I began bingeing the Star Trek series. I made it a mission to get through all the classic series after the original because I’ve seen every episode of that series multiple times.
So far, I’ve made it through Star Trek: Next Generation (Picard), Deep Space Nine (Sisko), and Voyager (Janeway). I’m currently watching Enterprise (Archer). I have to admit, Enterprise is daunting and hard to get into—mostly because I haven’t found that one character I love so much. Or that one enemy I find so compelling (Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians).
For Next Generation, that character was the handsome Worf. YES. I do find him wonderfully sexy and funny. And the good news was, he carried over into Deep Space Nine!
Deep Space Nine also had the wonderfully awful Quark. I found his pursuit of wealth and his Ferengi “Rules of Acquisition” a hoot. I wasn’t sure I’d love Deep Space because the show wasn’t about exploration. It was set on a space station at the mouth of a wormhole, but the cast had plenty of adventures.
Voyager‘s premise was the most fun, I think. A space ship stranded in a part of the galaxy far from home. They spent seven seasons trying to get home. Janeway, the captain, annoyed me for the first couple of seasons—until the episode when she went Rambo to save her crew. Awesome episode. But the characters I loved the most were The Doctor and Seven of Nine.
The doctor was a hologram who started out without much personality but who grew to be the most human of anyone on board. He was funny and sad. His love for Seven of Nine was shown through all the ways he tried to help her become more human. And oh, all the ways he explored his artistic soul… Just a wonderful character arc.
Then there was Seven of Nine, a former Borg drone. She was the sexiest character since Worf while still being a bit robot-stiff. Her arc was remarkable, too.
So, that’s my homage to my favorite Sci-Fi world. Let’s not talk about the movies. I ADORE Chris Pine as Kirk and wish like hell they’d hurry up and make more of them before he ages out! But the movies are only a couple of hours of entertainment, while I can wallow for weeks in a series.
So, there is a contest in here somewhere. I’ve rambled enough. For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, tell me what Sci-Fi series or movies made you lifelong fans. Are you more of a Star Wars fan or a Trekkie? Do you have favorite Sci-Fi movies?

I’m more Star Trek than Star Wars, though the later spin-offs – like Andor and the Mandalorian – have been excellent. The Babylon 5 series edged Trek out of my top spot. As for an SF movie, that will always be Blade Runner.

Funny Thing – i’m a Fan of both the original Star Trek (my Fave is Spock!) as well as the Films with Chris Pine (Karl Urban as the Doctor 😍).
AND: i love Star Wars! the badass female Characters make it really special 💜

Total Trekkie. Loved The 5th Element. I like my Scifi with a bit of humor. I also loved Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth.

I haven’t watched either one of them. I could never get into watching them.

While I love Star Trek (especially the new movies!), I’m a Star Wars baby. Empire Strikes Back hit just as I was becoming interested in romantic relationships, and the tension between Han and Leia will forever be my favorite!

The original Star Trek series made me a fan. The Trouble With Tribbles and An Errand of Mercy are my most watched episodes. As to Star Wars vs Star Trek I guess I’m not in either camp since I couldn’t get into the Star Wars movies after the original three and except for the Wrath of Khan and Voyager Home, none of the Star Trek movies have floated my boat. As to my all time favorite Sci Fi movie it would have to be Colossus: The Forbin Project where an American military computer and its Russian counterpart figure out they know better than the humans that created them what makes for world peace.

Fellow sci-fi nerd here! Star Trek all the way! (But I do like Star Wars too.) Not only did I start with the original series way back when, but I collected all the books for about 40 years. They were very careful to remain true to the cannon of the story lines. Awesome stories. And yes, I too have binge watched all of the series. Stick with Enterprise. It does begin to make sense. But Star Trek isn’t my only love. Remember Babylon Five? Farscape? I binge those occasionally too. And more recently Firefly! River is so awesome! I think my favorite sci-fi movie is an old B-movie called Ice Pirates. It’s so campy it’s great. There are other movies in my collection I watch when the mood strikes. I could go on and name a bunch, but . . . This is your blog, not mine. 😀

I’ve been a Trekkie since my then boyfriend/now husband turned me on to the original Star Trek series. I have every Star Trek movie, including the 3 new ones. My fave is The Voyage Home.

I started out watching Lost in Space then went to Star Trek and I was hooked. Of course, I was already hooked on Space my dad worked for a contractor out at Cape Canaveral/ Kennedy. I am a Trek fan big time, but I am just as big a fan of Star Wars.

Love Star Trek TNG, enjoyed Voyager… most recently have been enjoying Star Trek Picard. Binge watch Stargate SG1 occasionally.

I think StarTrek was my introduction to a SciFi series, tho there were a few movies prior to that. But I really do prefer Star Wars – perhaps because the effects & scenery was so much better or perhaps because Luke was so cute.

Worf totally make me a Star Trek fan. Thrilled to watch him in two series.

I’m glad y’all are enjoying the topic. I’m making a list of series and movies to binge once I’m through Enterprise! Thanks for the suggestions!

I am a Star Trek Next Generation fan, although the original is what sold me on the space exploration series. I think I found it fascinating that Captain Kurt wasn’t choosy when it came to his romances. No matter what planet they were from.

So, been a scifi fan forever. Our baby brother dragged us into being Star Trek fans, with the original series. The first movie I saw in a theater was The Empire Strikes Back with my dad. My brother wanted to go so bad that he threw himself from the backseat into the front when they dropped us off at the theater. Spoiler–he didn’t get to go, LOL. Have loved both, and have also read a lot of scifi. Discovering scifi romance was a joyful revelation :). Haven’t seen too many of the more current TV series, but have watched everything from the Jetsons to V to Lost in Space to Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica and the X Files…
More recently DH liked Man in the High Castle and Altered Carbon

Star Trek is my favorite. I did enjoy Star Wars but not as much.

I grew up watching the orginals of both. I seen a newer Trek on here or there. I saw the orginal three star wars. But due to budget constraints. Never saw much of the others. Loved watch orginal Trekkie with my grandfather. Never have grown out of it.

Thanks to everyone for sharing! I now have a long list of sci-fi series and movies to watch after I finish my run through ALL the Star Treks! I watched all of Farscape and loved it, too. I’ll likely go to Babylon 5 first…
