With less than a month left of school for the kids, we’re already planning how to spend our summer.
It gets hot in Arkansas. I mean, fry-an-egg-on-the-driveway hot. So, finding things we can do comfortably in the heat is a challenge. When the full heat arrives, we swim in the morning and sometimes at night with the tiki torches burning. We set up an outdoor projector to shine against the pale siding of the chicken coop, bring out the lounge chairs, and watch movies under the stars. The bats come out at night to keep the mosquitoes at bay. No kidding. They’re fun to watch, too.
Things like playing soccer or hiking have to be done early in the day. Things we can do indoors, like flea marketing, are musts.
I’ve made a list of things we’re planning. Perhaps you can add some ideas of your own! Let me know if any of mine appeal!

Canoe/kayaking, camping, craft shows, festivals, boating, VBS, open air painting, farmers markets, garage sales. These are something more I would add on to your list

I have a few sprinkler’s & splash pads my grandchildren enjoy in the summer. Also swimming in our small pool, but it’s plenty big enough right now for much enjoyment. We also relax on the back deck with bubbles. They are younger though so these things they enjoy. This summer they both would like to try some fishing.

Don’t forget amusement park and local festivals if your area has them. 😁

Are there places in Arkansas where you can go look for crystals and gems? I would try that. Otherwise, the list looks good. I would add chilling.

If you don’t have one, build a firepit to roast hot dog & som’mors; Any historical places or museums in a resonable distance to visit?

Love your list. Zoos, gardens, Fireworks show, Banana Splits. We love flea markets and garage sales and rummage sales early in the morning.

Libraries are always a big part of our summers! And we’re fortunate that our local libraries also often sponsor enticements for young and older readers alike, and also often fun activities or learning opportunities. And they now do things like loan ukeleles and bicycles, and that sort of thing too! And summers are great for kids to do a deep dive into crafting or other hands on stuff. Our oldest found a metal worker he did a few sessions with to learn more about how to forge things!
