I’m posting late because I had an early morning follow-up appointment with my cardiologist. I’ve graduated from 3-month checkups to 6-month ones. Yay! My blood pressure is down quite a bit. Not perfect, but he is hoping I’ll make a couple of lifestyle changes to get me the rest of the way there. You can guess which ones. Gah. Swimming is great! But what will I replace it with in the fall? Walking is hard. I live in a rural area with a very busy road and no shoulders. I think I’ll have to invest in a treadmill, much as I hate them. Or a recumbent bike. Do you have suggestions for equipment you swear by? I am not tasking my daughter to ferry me to the gym several times a week. (I no longer drive due my eyesight.) Any suggestions would be helpful.

This I think would be perfect. I swear by mine. You could put it under your desk and use it while working or in front of you while you watch tv on movie nights.

Delilah they are cheaper than a treadmill or recumbent bike and smaller to store.

I would suggest a really nice (one that is cushioned, washable, antislip) yoga mat. Also, a really good yoga block. Invest in a physical therapist quality stretching strap. Get a really good (heavy duty) balance ball. A full set of workout bands in small “weights”. And finally, get a kettle bell in a small weight and be prepared to get a new one whenever you graduate to being stronger. You can do a LOT of exercises with that set of equipment.

I did not know about your eyesight; I’m sorry you can no longer drive. I used to have a treadmill (no space now) and I loved using it while watching TV, now I’d be listening to audiobooks!

My parents enjoyed using a set of step workout videos with steps that we picked up for them at TJ Maxx… I do love walking, but it’s hard to do it outside when the weather is fickle and sidewalks are nonexistent!
