We’re counting down! It’s just a week away now. We still haven’t painted our pumpkins, and I know my dd is dreading the mess. The kids love doing it, but whoo! Paint gets everywhere so we do it on the lawn with a large throwaway tarp or tablecloth. This weekend, they’re going to the theme park in Hot Springs for a scary Halloween night. I’ll stay home and enjoy the quiet. The kids all have plans for Halloween night—which neighborhoods and community buildings to hit, which friends they’ll bring along… Fun will be had by all.
Here’s a fun list of 10 things I love about Halloween…
- 👻 “The veil” between the worlds of the living and the dead thins
- 🎃 The family decorates pumpkins
- 📺 Halloween movies play
- 🌃 Kids play in the dark
- 🧛 Vampires are cool again
- 🧟 Zombies come out to play
- 👹 Monsters carry candy buckets
- 🤡 Clowns become rightfully scary
- 🧹 Tiny wicked witches arrive at the door asking for candy
- 🍬 Candy becomes an acceptable food group!

I used to love making my kids Halloween costumes. It started when my eldest was in Kindergarten. She was Raggedy Ann, complete with yarn hair. She one first place in the school parade. Hence her love of dress up. The last costume I made for her she was in her late twenties. I made us matching fairy princess costumes. She was working at a game store in the mall and I helped her with the evening’s festivities. We actually had little kids wanting to have pics of us.

Making costumes for my sister and my 2 cousins (over 50 years ago), being able to wear (appropriate) costumes to work, drawing cool spooky pictures, walking in the Halloween parades in town, AND the candy!

I love driving to work and seeing people in costumes driving as well.
I love seeing the kids coming to the door for candy.
I love family theme costumes.
I love dressing up for work and staying in costume to answer the door. The kids get a kick out seeing me in costume.
Favorite costumes had to be when I made Snow White, seven drawf’s, magic mirror, and evil witch with poison apple for a group theme for work one year and we won the branch costume contest between the branches.

*I love the decorations at all the houses
*We have a huge graveyard with funny tombstones and love to watch the adults reading them – many are subtle with adult humor!
*Love all the kids in their costumes – and the shy ones too! the very small ones we let grab ‘handfuls’ from the bowl!
*Made my daughter a “Hershy Kiss costume one year -when she wore to school – had her bring a large bag of candy kisses – to give away- she loved it!!
*So many wonderful memories from my childhood with 6 siblings trick or treating!!!!

I love going to my grandson’s preschool & to my granddaughter’s school to watch their Halloween parades with all the costumes.
Love having pumpkins around & having the kids paint them.
Even though I don’t get trick or treaters…just the grandkids….I still enjoy buying some candy. (It doesn’t get wasted…🤣)

I’m not all that crazy about Halloween as an adult but I remember loving getting dressed in costume and going trick-or-treating when I was young. My mother was great at sewing wonderful costumes. I also remember that the kids in the neighborhood knew which houses gave out the best goodies. The houses were close together so we could hit a lot of places in a short amount of time.
