UPDATE: The winner is…Diana Sallens!
*~*~*
I packed the 10-year-old’s lunch bag today with the usual stuff, plus an apple. Then I added the one thing I knew would make her smile because she loves them as much as I do—a big fat juicy dill pickle. I’m sure her friends look at her funny, but she’d rather have a pickle than a piece of fruit. Seriously.
I LOVE pickles. Plain ol’ dills, kosher dills, gherkins—but I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE mixed, spicy pickles, too. Have you ever tried Korean kimchi? Yes, you have to get past the fermented garlicky smell (doesn’t bother me a bit!) to get to the yumminess. They do pickles with cabbage, carrots, beets, cucumbers, etc. I adore mixed, spicy Mexican pickles, too. There’s really an endless variety. Then there’s my great-grandma’s chow-chow. She had the best dill pickles and chow-chow ever. Like, to-die-for good.

I kind of new to pickle eating. I stick with pickled cucumbers on the sweeter end for now but I keep trying new types and I am trying all sorts of pickled veggies because I figure I’ll find new things to love.

I love Dill pickles! I enjoy just eating them by themselves or in different recipes.

I don’t believe I am as well traveled as you are, so some of the more exotic pickled items are outside my experience. However, I did grow up on a farm. Dill pickles, sweet pickles, bread and butter pickles, pickled beets, to name a few, were standard fare in our household. Enjoyed them all. A favorite? I can’t pick a fav. Although pickled eggs are not high on my list. 😀 And in spite of my German heritage and having lived there for a few years, neither is sauerkraut. But what a fun day of recognition! Thank you for sharing it with us.

Dill pickles and half dills are my favorite.

My aunt used to give me home canned Dill Pickles with hot chili in the jars. So the pickles were tart and spicy. I got a case every Christmas that would last for about 6 months.

Don’t like pickles. If add they better be sweet gherkins or none.

Some of these I’ve never heard of. I’ll eat fill pickles but my favorite is a bread n butter pickle…though I do like gherkins also.

Mmm. I didn’t think of pickled hot peppers. Love those not just for the peppers but for the vinegar to pour over bean soup or chili.

I love sweet pickles like gherkins and bread & butter (my mom used to make b&b’s). Also love dills (especially kosher garlic). Tho I realize saurrkraut is pickled, I don’t think of it as a pickle – I do love it on hot dogs, but we always heat it while other pickles we eat cold.

I like dill and sweet pickles.

While I don’t eat many pickles these days, my favorites are the ones my aunt used to make–pickled baby peaches and shallots… She would bring them occasionally when she and my uncle would visit, and they were such a treat!
