UPDATE: The winner is…Jennifer Beyer!
*~*~*
Winter has finally arrived in Central Arkansas. Our winters are generally mild compared to the rest of the country, but we do get cold weather. Last night was 23 degrees, so we dripped faucets and ran the pool pump to keep the pipes from freezing up. From here through mid-March-ish, we’ll be checking the weather nightly to take precautions, like making sure we have gas to run the generator when ice takes down a power line. When Spring comes, it’ll arrive quickly, and we’ll have a bit of Spring before full-on Summer arrives. If we can get the pool cleaned quickly, we could be (temperatures permitting) getting into the pool by the end of April. God, I hope so. I live for summers, which are muggy and intolerably hot, but I LOVE swimming and hanging in the pool with the kids. Yes, I talk a lot about the pool because I am obsessed. Water baby, here. I’m a Cancer, so yeah, I love any excuse to don a swimsuit. Right now, I’m dreaming about floating in the river, renting a pontoon for a lake party, and slicing up watermelon and cantaloupe to eat beside the pool… On and on. My daughter loves “sweater weather” but I love flip-flops, shorts, and pool time.
However, the winter does have its moments. We had snow falling yesterday, which didn’t stick because it turned to rain mid-morning. Still, I snapped some pictures because it was pretty. But I wasn’t sad when it melted. My dd was. She loves nothing better than when we get a couple of feet of snow, and my SIL ties an innertube to the tractor to pull the kids across the snow. They love building igloos (again, aided by the tractor to push up the snow high enough) and snowmen. Yes, we’re redneck as hell with our winter activities, but you use what you’ve got when you live in the South and want to enjoy the weather while you can. 🙂
In the meantime, I have a puzzle with ice crystals stuck to a windowpane. Solve the puzzle and tell me what you and your family like to do in the cold weather for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card!

I’m not much of a cold weather person. Though I do live in Pennsylvania where we definitely get snow, cold temps & ice. Since I’m retired there’s no reason for me to go out in it. I watch the grandkids playing outside & warm them up when they come in. I’m a warmer weather fan.

Once upon a time, when I was young, we used to have the most amazing winter wonderland parties. We had hills for sledding and skiing, a pond for skating, and miles of trails for snowmobiling as well as snowmen and snowball fights, followed by hot chocolate. Many, many, many moons ago. These days, with arthritic old age invading, a good book and warm afghan are preferred with my hot chocolate. The arthritis does not like the cold anymore. But, lovely picture. I finished the puzzle in 3:57.

Beautiful picture. When I was young, lived in Northern CA and we got sleat and ice on the ground, not snow. We use to run in the house, get our hands as warm as we could under hot water, then run outside to form ice balls to throw at each other. Now being older and living in lower Northern CA, we don’t have that, so sitting under a blanket with books is my go to winter days. Unless I take a vacation to Disneyland, then I brave the weather.

Stay in with a cup of tea and a good book. My husband plays on his computer.

I enjoy some hot chocolate and a book… when we were kids, we loved sledding.

I like to see the snow, but hate to deal with clearing it – I can’t do much shoveling anymore (and never did like it) or have to pay to have driveway cleared if over 5 inches. Worst is when county plows put a mountain of ice chunks at the end of the driveway.

Since I am retired, it is just me and blood thinners now keep me cold, I avoid doing anything in the cold. I like watching the snow falling from the inside of my house.
I used to go out and shovel the snow 2 or 3 times to make sure the sidewalks were cleared, but now…

I moved to NM to get away from snow and cold, but I do love looking at wintry scenes from the comfort of a warm room.

We’re supposed to get snow this weekend. No sign of it yet. 🙁
We just hunker down and read a lot and/or do some crafting.

I’m a native Central CA girl, so snow would probably immobilize me something fierce if I had to live in it! Yeah, big wuss when it comes to winter.
BTW, thank you for the gift card from your December Christmas song post. Appreciate it.

We love to set a fire in the fireplace and cook breakfast for dinner and maybe play a board game.

4:08 – mostly we like to go out walking. Not when the wind comes up from the Antarctic though.

3:55 My husband hates the snow so we moved but we did enjoy building snowmen.

we don’t like cold weather so we snuggle up inside and binge on tv and food

After clearing our hilly drive with the tractor and laying down sand, we hang out inside and read or play games.

I hate the cold. Living in the North in Pa winters are to long. I am a summer girl all the way! I tend to watch the snow fall through the window and hope it doesn’t stick around.

Love cold weather. Play games, cards, movies, read, and create something artistic.

We enjoy drinking hot chocolate in the cold. I like to settle in and read.

I’m old now so the cold is aweful to my body but I live watching my grandbaby play in the snow brings me so much joy seeing their parents and them. I get the hot chocolate ready for them so when they come in they each can tell me how fun it was
