UPDATE: The winner is…Martha Lanham!
*~*~*
Well, we thought the kids would be back in school today, finally. In fact, we were ready to get them bundled into the car for the trip to town when the 15-year-old slid on the ground and scraped up her arm and sprained her wrist (at least we hope it’s just a sprain), and we came back inside to get her bandaged up. Just as we were finishing with the bandages and splint, the notice came on our phones that they’d decided to cancel school again. It might have had something to do with the school bus in the ditch at the bottom of our long hill. No one injured, but…the bus slid into the ditch! Thank goodness my daughter drives the kids (fights on the school bus necessitated that long ago).
Anyway, the kids are back in their jammies, sitting around the living room with pets cuddled up beside them. We’ve suffered a little attrition to our numbers due to old age and illnesses over the years. We are down to five cats and seven dogs, now. Remember, we didn’t collect all these animals ourselves; we inherited my mom’s four dogs when she passed.
My betta fish passed away from old age a couple of months ago. I did try everything to make him comfortable and to “fix” him, but what I read about how he was acting pointed to old age. I haven’t purchased another. I’ll wait for warmer weather because any fish we get has to travel an hour in a plastic tub to get here. I do miss my fish though. No, you can’t pet or snuggle them, and I’m okay with that. The bunny in my art room stays mostly in its cage because when we open the door, he hops out, looks around, then decides he likes his cage better. He’s not very affectionate. The two cats that hang out with me can be very annoying when they want attention. Having one perched like a vulture on my shoulder isn’t conducive to good concentration, and I hate finding the little bits of kitty litter that stick to their paws on my art table.
But my family has always had pets. More dogs than anything else.
So, my question to you is, what is your favorite type of pet? It’s okay if you say a plant. I get that, too. If you want to share a little story about your favorite pet, we’d all love to read about it! Today’s prize is a $5 Amazon gift card! I hope you enjoy the puzzle!

I have always had dogs. I have 2 large dogs now. I also like turtles 🐢. I had 3 while my son was growing. Watching them swim is very relaxing

Overtime since I was little inside we’ve had dogs, cats, fish, parakeets, parrots, a eastern painted turtle, and outside chickens, rabbits, turkeys, and, koi fish.
My favorite would probably be dogs (boxer) & cats (Maine coons). You would love my kids cousin in the U.P. she a animal trainer/whisper.

I like cats. They are low maintenance but I do NOT like them crawling and climbing on everything. I did have one that adopted me. She was a sweet little thing named BJ. She passed years ago. I like dogs and now retired, I considered getting a small one, but I don’t drive and now on a fixed income, I don’t need the additional expense.
My mom had fish. She had a beta that would come over to the side of the aquarium when she would feed it. Mom died in 2009 and I kept up the aquarium. In 2010, February, we had a snowstorm 3 days before I got my gall bladder out. I went to stay at my sister’s for a week. She was on peritoneal dialysis. Her catheter developed an infection, so we went back to the hospital for her to have it removed. Went back to her place while she was in the hospital. The power where I lived went out. I didn’t give anything a thought–I had enough to deal with. When I got back home, my mom’s little fish was dead. Such a small little thing, but in it’s tiny fish brain it loved my mom. And now, both were gone. I still cry when I think about it.

I grew up in the country with all kinds of animals from cats and dogs to rabbits and pigs. But, we also always had an aquarium of fish. Mostly guppies, but occasionally some more exotic and colorful fish. We watched it as much as we watched TV. I always found them fascinating. One can get lost in that world. These days, the lone beta is about my speed. Less work.

Laura! Yes, I love turtles. Their water fowls quickly, but if you keep it up, they are a lot of fun to watch and play with. I always loved feeding them by hand.
The kids’ cousin sounds amazing. My ex-husband is an animal whisperer, too. Mostly into dogs (but also cats and horses). He does amazing things with them (we’re still great friends).

Cindy, I’m so sorry about your mom’s betta. I feel for you. I still feel horrible guilt for the betta that escaped its fish bowl. I didn’t find it’s little body until I moved the refrigerator I used to have in my office. The poor thing hopped on the floor until it landed there. I always thought one of the cats must have scooped it up. After that, I always had a covered tank because I’ll never let a fish pull a “Nemo” again.
Pansy, I love that you watched the fish rather than the TV. I get that. They are hypnotic.

I was a dog person until I got my first cat for my 10th birthday. Have had a few cats ever since. I currenty have 9, ranging from almost 18, Valentines day, to 2 1 year olds with FIV. Then there is the 1 from a farel coloney a few streets away. He deciced he wanted a family, and I am it. He has come in briefly a few times. He prefers outside. So he has 2 beds with heating pads, and a heated pet house, he has yet to use, along with heated water and food bowls on my coverd porch.
I still love dogs. I get my almost daily dog fix from my brother, sister and a few neighbors and friends. I don’t have to walk, let in or out, or clean up poo in he yard. I doggie sit from time to time.
I have had fish, all kinds incluging beta, budgies, gerbiles, and rabbits and have enjoyed them all.

We’ve always tried to have either a cat or dog around. Sometimes both. We currently have a rescue kitty.

I used to have lungfish and they actually recognized me. One did bite me and I had an allergic reaction and developed an infection.

I have had a wide variety of pets over the years… I find watching my fish soothing… love my cat even though she can bug me at inconvenient times… had a hamster that loved sleeping among my stuffed animals when I was a kid… my best friend growing up was my parrot Oscar… I miss that bird… also have had dogs, lizards, rats, mice, guinea pigs, long eared rabbit, frogs, hermit crabs, etc… so in general, I am an animal lover.

I love dogs. They are just so nice to have around. I actually love my daughter’s hermit crab. We used to have three of them but they have slowly died. One of them had such a funny personality that I was constantly laughing. He actually liked to climb the tree we have in the tank and roll down to the bottom to clink against the glass. Or sometimes he would sit in the tree and chirp (he sounded like R2D2). I never knew hermit crabs have distinct personalities!

No pets right now, but we always had cats and birds when I was a child.

I love dogs. They are so lovable and most like to cuddle. My baby Sherlock, who is 12 has started to decline due to enlarged heart and liver, so I am enjoying the time we have left right now. Poor old boy is blind too. So I am facing that hard decision time sooner rather than later. Cats are great but as allergic can’t have any. Have had white rats, fish, and chinchillas too.

I’m more of a cat person than anything. Though I’ve always had dogs too. At one time I had 3 dogs & 4 cats at one time. Over time, as they’ve aged the numbers have lessened. I recently got a new kitten…an orange girl named Peaches. My 10 year old cat isn’t happy she bothers him. We’re looking for another dog & we’ll see if one comes along. But we need to find one that’ll be receptive to my young grandson.

My favorite pet is my original Pet Rock. It is guaranteed to outlive me. However, our wiener dog is my real favorite as she is a great cuddler.

I have had a multitude of Animals over the years. We have a rescued German Sheppard and a little 6 month old kitten.
