The Joy of Bingeing (Contest)

UPDATE: The winner is Beckie!
*~*~*

The COVID Lockdown gave birth to a new habit I’m unable to break—bingeing old television series.

I started with Criminal Minds—all 15 seasons. It was so satisfying to keep track of the characters’ arcs inside the series. I loved the innovative crimes. When I finished, I felt a huge letdown. It was like coming off a high, almost (ahem, not that I know what that is like). So, I scouted around for other series I could watch from start to finish. My list isn’t complete because I’m sure I’ve forgotten something along the way, but I went back to one of my childhood joys, Star Trek.

Since I’d watched Star Trek, The Original Series a couple of times through already years ago, I watched The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Enterprise, Voyager, and Picard. And then because I was out of series that were complete, I watched everything I could of Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlds. I also watched Farscape, from beginning to end (so good!). And because it had been years since I’d watched The Original Series, I watched it again (I just finished last week)—and you know, it holds up. Yeah, the tech is very crude by today’s standards, but the characters! Star Trek without William Shatner’s Kirk would have been forgotten.

While I wait for new complete seasons of the new Star Trek shows to drop, I looked around for something else sci-fi-ish but different. I’m currently watching the first season of Sea Quest DSV, but it misses for me. I love the concept of “Star Trek, but in the depths of the ocean,” but the characters aren’t as compelling although I howled in the first scene when Roy Scheider (Jaws) was swimming in the ocean with a dolphin’s fin circling him. Still, I’m stubborn, and I’ll watch it until I finish it. Then, hopefully, the new Star Trek episodes will be available.

Of non-sci-fi shows—I really like Ghosts. I was drawn because I LOVED Rose McIver in I Zombie, and I stayed because I love the ensemble cast. I watched all of NCIS: New Orleans. I like NCIS: Hawaii.

So, now you know what I do when I finish writing and need to unwind before I go to bed. I unspool a series and watch it from beginning to end, sometimes slogging through it if it isn’t wonderful but determined to get to The End.

For a chance to win a download of one of my books, your choice, tell me whether you’ve binged a series and what you like. What would you recommend for when I run out of Star Trek?

I never binged anything, though on Wednesday’s ION runs Blue Bloods and on Sat/ Sun mornings on TNT, they do NCIS New Orleans.
I would suggest rewatching DS9 again. If you’ve only been through it once, seeing it a second time you will see how all the story threads weave together from S1-E1.
I have a lot of DVD sets, but never had the time to just sit and watch.

I’ve been using Tubi to binge everything- Babylon 5, Earth Final Contact, V, Masterchef (Australia/US/Canada), many many things. Traitors on Peacock (US, Australia, UK) along with a ton of those survive the wilderness shows. I could go on & on, if I can’t binge it, I wait.

Well that depends on what you are in the mood for. If comedy I suggest the Big Bang Theory, MASH, Golden Girls, Grace and Frankie.

For drama I suggest Madame Secretary, emergency(favourite), Bones, Miami Vice, Nash Bridges, CSI-the original, Longmire, Numb3rs (my favourite), Downton Abbey, Rossini and Isles, Unforgotten(British), Yellowstone, Rosemary & Thyme(British), Scandal, Scorpion, The Closer, which spins off to Major Crimes

For family friend and because you and your daughter have a close relationship I suggest Gilmore Girls.

If you like cooking shows/competition I suggest The Great British Bake Off or the Great Canadian Bake Off. I like it because this competition because there is no drama just baking. Or you could watch Julia Child cooking shows or Jamie Oliver has many different cooking shows that are awesome.

For educational I suggest David Attenborough shows. There a lot of them. His voice is soothing. For SyFi I suggest Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel which is a spin off of Buffy

I must say, our tastes are quite similar. I have binged watched almost every show you mentioned. I am still a bit behind on the newer Star Trek shows. Otherwise, I enjoyed Seaquest, DSV. Love NCIS, in all it’s forms. Have you watched NCIS, LA? In the past year I have watched Ghost Whisperer, Medium, and the newer Walker, Texas Ranger. I am working on the old one with Chuck Norris. While we are on the “blast from the past” wavelength, Six Million Dollar Man is on Peacock. What a hoot. Not sure how long I will stay with that one. I don’t remember the scripts being so . . . Juvenile. Yes! I binge!

I thought of another one. This one only has 37 episodes. The Life And Times Of Grizzly Adams starring Dan Haggarty. Awesome show

I am a huge Star Trek fan; I own all of the DVD sets for TOS, Next Gen, DS9 and Voyager.

I’ve binged watched all of the seasons of 24. For something sci-fi I recommend Stargate SG 1 and Stargate Atlantis. I own the DVDs and binged watched them when I purchased them several years ago.

How could I forget Buffy and Angel! I have to do a rewatch with the girls. I started Battlestar Gallactica, and I think I made it through two seasons, but it just didn’t catch me. I’m going to add Stargate to my list…

The winner of her choice of one of my downloadable stories is…beckie, and I guess, Beckie. Email me at delilah@delilahdevlin.com to let me know which story you want!
