UPDATE: The winner is…Cindy!
*~*~*
Local schools announced a holiday—likely because they knew few students would show up and teachers would want to watch the total eclipse of the sun, too! So the three kids were with us.
All my siblings—two brothers and my sister—my daughter and her kids gathered at my brother’s place across the highway for a viewing party. We arrived at 11:30, set up the chairs facing the sun, handed out approved eclipse glasses, and roasted. The temperature was a very balmy 84 degrees, hardly a cloud in the sky. By the time the show was all over we did have sunburns. 🙂
Of course there was plenty of time for silly photographs. My daughter played “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and we all sang so loud we could hear neighbors laughing. The 10-year-old was our self-appointed timekeeper who let us know the countdown to the “totality.” There were plenty of goosebumps and oohs and ahhs when the totality occurred and the world grew dark.
Afterward, we weren’t as interested in watching the sun “grow bigger.” My brothers set up the grill to fry a ton of fresh-caught bass with hush puppies and tons of yummy sides. So, so, good. I am so grateful we could all be together for these few days, and to enjoy the eclipse. We’ll all carry memories of a very unique event.
For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, tell me when your family gathered for some fun event! And did you get to watch the eclipse?

hi, the eclipse was not seen from my country sadly but we did gather together to watch one last time we had one several years ago ( though it was a bit cloudy so not such a great spectacle)

Been a long time since we, as a family, got together for fun. As a multigeneration/multi-branch family, we had 2 family reunions (1 pre ’97, 1 post ’97) where I got to meet family I never knew about. Just my immediate family, we had some of the best times vacationing in a square ‘monopoly’ house cabin (2 double beds+ 3 feet wide and long, with a bathroom with walls that did not go to the ceiling)! We’d play badminton outside, site-see, play board games, play penny poker… Life was so simple.
As for the eclipse, it was dreary most of the day with some off-and-on drizzle. It got dark, kind of a winter at 5:00 just before it would snow dark. Didn’t go look for it.

I had clouds and rain so I missed seeing it 🙁

Did not watch, just saw it get a bit darker outside the window…

We recently got together to watch my brother perform in a play–it was based on the experiences of immigrants coming through Angel Island, and so was especially meaningful to our family. We didn’t see the most recent eclipse, but am glad your family took it as an opportunity to enjoy time together!

No eclipse watching here, no eclipse. There was a light show here in town called Eclipse though.

We just stood in our back yard to watch. It was so cloudy that we couldn’t see much. It was fun anyway.
