UPDATE: The winner is…Anna Marie Flamini!
*~*~*
A rare geomagnetic solar storm has some folks very excited. When it was announced, we were disappointed that we wouldn’t get to see them this far south in Arkansas. However, last night, some of the 19-year-old’s friends shared pictures they’d taken with their phones of faint glimmers of the aurora borealis affect.
So, she went outside and took these.
Cool, right? Our big old trees blocked most of it. Okay, so it’s not spectacular, but we NEVER see the lights this far south.
I’ve always wanted to go someplace like Iceland to experience the truly spectacular Northern Lights, but maybe someday.
For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, have you ever seen the Northern Lights? Enjoy the puzzle and Happy Saturday!

Nope but did see some interesting night skies in Alaska

I’ve never seen them until last night. West Virginia is normally too far south. It was pretty amazing

Nope and we missed it last night due to clouds but hopefully get a chance tonight.

I’ve never seen them in person but I hope to one day. I bet they are magical!

Sadly, I have to say I have not seen these amazing lights. Last night’s show was rained out in my neck of the world. If you seen some, I should have too here on the west coast of Michigan. But alas, clouds and rain. (It’s still cloudy and rainy. Grrrrr . . .) Some day. The pictures that come from friends in the upper peninsula are spectacular.

With the naked eye, I was able to see lighter areas of sky last night. With the right filter on the cameras, the daughters were able to get colors in the pictures. First time in my memory that the lights got this far south and we had a cloudless night at the same time. Have never seen the lights otherwise, even on my vacation in Alaska when I was a kid. Of course that was at the height of summer when there was only a darkening of the sky for a couple hours at night.

I have been to Alaska 3 times but never saw the lights. Forgot to go outside last night to see if they could be seen here in San Jose, CA.

Nope, but BBC news shared some spectacular images

No I have not, but I do love looking at the stars at night.

Yes! We went to Norway in February just to glimpse the Aurora Borealis! Beautiful!

Yes they show up here in WI, but last night it was raining so we didn’t get a great view.

I first saw them on Drummond Island in 1996-1997 at the yacht haven. All green tones.
I have pictures of those last night captured with the help my cellphone. They were dancing behind the clouds, and harder to see.

Not yet, but we definitely would love to. It’s on our list to plan a trip to a location where we can!

I have seen the northern lights, and they are truly amazing, it is like watching the sky dance. It is so worth the trip to Iceland.
