Saturday Puzzle-Contest: Another Power Outage

UPDATE: The winner is…ELF!
*~*~*

I had a late start today. At 1:23 this morning, our power went out. Again. I live in a rural area, and our power is provided by above-ground poles. So, we have pretty frequent outages that can last hours or days, depending on whether the source is a downed tree or a transformer. I didn’t get much sleep because the house got stuffy, and I like the sound of fans running while I sleep—have to have that white noise. My SIL got the generator running so we could at least keep the food in the refrigerator from spoiling. It’s 8:47 now, and we’re finally back up and running. I’m likely going to be napping in between spurts of editing today. I hope you all had a better start to your weekend!

For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, solve the puzzle and tell me whether this is something you face frequently. Plus, if you have suggestion for how to prepare for outages, let everyone know!

I do not because our power lines are buried, but it could happen.

Delilah. Your power goes out so often that I think it would be wise to invest in a Generac these are back up generators that are connected to your house and runs on gas or propane. You can buy the generator on Amazon and then higher someone to connect it. You can also get them from Home Depot.

Not in recent years, but when I first moved here, we would have them a few times a year.

the worst was due to Hurricane Sandy when I was out for at least 8 days, but generally I’m not out for long. Tho this year there has been a couple of short duration, tho the other side of town has had a lot more and longer outages. I try to think to charge my phone if big storms are expected and also my lantern that is charge using a USB(?) port to the electric.

The outages here are only occasional – tree taking out power lines or a blown transformer. I generally just roll with the flow. Did out the flash light, read my kindle, (I have three, so at least one has a charge.) or just take a nap. Sometimes, I am not even aware we have been without power until I notice a clock blinking at me needing to be reset. But we are not usually without power for more than a few hours.

We are lucky that we don’t have frequent power outages. When we have them we like to start our fire place and cook a meal or sit and read a book. It’s excellent quiet time.

We rarely lose power. Just if a power pole comes down for any reason. We always have torches on hand, but that’s about it.

Thankfully we don’t often lose power, but do occasionally during storms. We try to have charged flashlights, access to candles and a lighter, a manual can opener…

Hope you stay well and safe, Delilah!

I keep battery-operated candles and large flashlights handy, but fortunately we do not have power outages very often. Sorry that you’re going through this.

I faced it quite frequently as a kid/teenager. It was more fun to know what to do when others couldn’t because they especially didn’t know how to cook. When the power went out.

We always had fireplace, grills, hurricane lamps, kerosene lamps, and candles.

I’m always prepared as long as I have the money to get the stuff needed especially if its past simple camping gear.

I live in a rural area and our power goes off and on all the time. We have above ground lines but some out here have them under ground but they had to goes months without power because it flooded, so if you live in a flood prone area underground isn’t good.
As for us we have always had small generators to run our ice machine, refrigerators, freezers, computer tv and coffee pot and to have hot water we had to turn the other stuff off. They would also run two window units and we had to put up thick curtains to block off the rest of the house. Now we have a Generac generator that runs the entire house.

Not often and when it does I always forget where my candles are, hopefully you don’t have to endure for long

We live on a hill in a rural area but our power lines are buried and we only lose power if a transformer blows or is hit by lightning. We keep rechargeable lights ready just in case.

We just had a power outage last week. Thankfully, it came back on within an hour. We don’t usually have power outages here in town.

    6:35 I’m out of practice!
We are lucky that power outages have been very few in the 11 years since we moved to Florida. Even during the two major hurricanes, Irma and Ian, our power wasn’t out long at all.
