UPDATE: The winner is…Amy Fendley!

Halloween is fast approaching!
I have such vivid memories of Halloween night when I lived on military bases as a kid. We carried pillowcases and hit every house in enlisted housing, running from one to the next, and when we finished, our parents would load us up and take us to officer housing (where they had the best candy!), and we’d hit every house there as well. We’d come back with months’ worth of candy and then sit and trade for our favorite kinds.
For me, it was Tootsie Rolls.
I live in a rural area now, so we don’t get Trick or Treaters here, and I do miss the kids showing up at the door to get their treats. Our kids dress up and hit the major parties at the churches and on Main Street. I used to go with them, but I’ll wait at home for them to come back (yes, even the 15-year-old will find a party she can go to). When they come home, they always search their buckets for my favorite candy to share.
I’d love to hear about your memories of Halloween. And for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, tell me your favorite Halloween candy! Enjoy the puzzle!Â

Used to like the tootsie rolls but also liked cherry flavored tootsie pops. Yes when i was little going house to house was fun and the costumes were more home made than store bought. Little by little lots of changes to Halloween. If you’re going out this year be safe and have mom and dad check candy. Wish we did nit have to do that now.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL THE TRICK OR TREATERS

My favorite memory of Halloween was the last year that I got to go trick or treating. It was the last year that I lived in Oklahoma City before moving to a living hell in Arkansas. My mom was gonna be late from work and I wasn’t allowed to go by myself. My Aunt Ginger came and took me. By that time it was late and every door I went up to just dumped whatever they had left into my sack. The people who given out all of their candy gave me spare change. I had to run back to my house at least 2 times to dump out the candy and start again. So much fun.

I love Reese’s Pieces and Peanut M&Ms… a favorite memory… running from one door to another… loving the thoughts of all of the candy I was getting, but especially loving this one guy’s house… he always handed out handfuls of pennies! 🙂

I love dark chocolate so for Halloween candy that means Mounds or Hershey Special Dark mini bars. Halloween memories – running from house to house on a nearby street, especially the year my Mom made me an Indian Princess dress out of burlap (itchy) and it rained that year, so it was a bit fragrant.

We always got a ton of candy growing up. With 3 of us and being allowed to go trick or treating in different neighborhoods AND different towns, we got quite a haul. Mom let us keep some out, but froze the rest. The candy lasted us til Easter when the supply in the freezer was replenished.
Those days the candy was full size bars.
What I didn’t like is an easier list. I was and am still not fond of snickers and mounds. I didn’t like the orange and brown wrapped soft peanutbutter candy, tootsie rolls, or mary-janes.
Making costumes was fun for me. I made suits of armor for my cousins complete with shields and weapons. For my sister, I made a set of scuba tanks one year.

We used to have so much fun on Halloween. We would go everywhere and get lots of candy. I lived on military bases and so the houses were close together. My favorite candy is smarties.

My comment disappeared. As a child, we lived on military bases. We got so much candy. We sat down and sorted it all after.

As long as it’s sweet I love all candy.

Our trick or treating was a small affair because there weren’t many people who participated. Now I make sure to have candy for all of the kids so they can go out and have fun.

My favorite Halloween candy? As you might remember, I am not a fan of favorites. It’s really so hard to chose just one. But, I am going to go with Almond Joy because, this time of year, I “feel like a nut!” My daughter is very much into the season. At first it was the attraction of dressing up. She won a first place ribbon for the first costume I made for her. Raggedy Ann. She was so sweet. I think that was my favorite thing about the season, making my kids costumes. I miss that.

There were a couple years that I hand made the kids costumes. They are still around somewhere in a box but all those ready made one are long gone.
And my fave candy is Tootsie Rolls. It’s harder to find packages of them during most of the year, but they really show up during October.
