He’s the best man I’ve ever known. He came from very humble beginnings, joined the Air Force to make a better life for himself, and sent money back to his parents to provide for them, even after he married my mother. He loved my mother, gave her a good life, and built the house I live in now with his own hands. We lost him in 2019, and we miss him. And if I tend to write heroes who are quiet and stoic and brave, well, I had a great role model.
It’s his birthday today, and I’ll be thinking about him.

How fortunate to have such a role model.

Sounds like my dad, we lost him 20 years ago and still appreciate his strength and humor.

Your dad and mine sound so much alike. Unfortunately, we lost mine without warning in 2008 when he was only 64. I tried so hard to teach my sons the values they would have learned from his influence they missed having him in their daily lives. Not a day goes by that I still talk to him sometimes find myself failing his cellphone number before I remember he won’t be the one to answer the call before I hang up. He was my best friend which is why I wanted to reach out as soon as I read you post and send viral hugs and say your dad is still taking care of you and yours it’s just in a different way but know very time something reminds you of him every character you create in his honor and even the love you have for others is his way of still keeping you safe and loved.
