UPDATE: The winner is…Linda Rhoden!
*~*~*
It’s the Saturday before Thanksgiving! This year, the schools gave the kids the entire week off! So, we’re covered in kids (well, the three), and we couldn’t be happier to have them at home. My daughter has all the things purchased for the meal other than the fresh produce she’ll pick up this week. We all love her Thanksgiving feast.
The turkey is always the centerpiece, even though turkey isn’t our favorite meat. Is that you, too? We tend to look for a smaller turkey, around twelve pounds, because we really, really don’t like endless leftovers. We also have a small ham, and that’s a preference for me and the 15-year-old. We freeze whatever’s left over for soups or other meal ideas later. Not the turkey though. It’s a once-a-year thing for us because we’re just not that into turkey except for Thanksgiving Day.
How will we fill the days until then? Good meals, for one. Last night, the 20-year-old took over the kitchen and made handmade corn tortillas, which we stuffed with shredded, smoked pork (my SIL manned the smoker!), cilantro and onions, and her special, homemade hot sauce (so much better than store-bought). Sooooo delicious. We’ll have some leftovers today, and then who knows?
My dd is going to man a table for the art center for the downtown Holiday Open House on Sunday. There’s Black Friday sales she and the girls are going to do on Friday. I’m sure we’ll watch a holiday movie or two. The 11-year-old is dying to see Moana-2 in the theaters, so that might happen, too. I’ve been dying to see Wicked, but I don’t want to face the crowds just yet. Masking up is a pain—and how would I enjoy my popcorn? I might wait until it streams, which is a shame because it looks like a delicious spectacle.
Anyway, those are our plans. Maybe I can talk the fam into hitting the flea market this week. That’s low-key and few people—and one of my favorite things to do.

For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, tell me whether you love the bigger turkey and all those leftovers. What do you do with them? And do you have big plans for the week?

Personally, I can do without the Turkey. If it was left to me, I would have spaghetti. But I will be spending the day with my brother and his wife. They love Turkey, and the leftovers. She also serves a ham, so something for everyone. I am looking forward to the company myself. I love spending time with my brother and his family. And those are my big plans for the week. Otherwise, streaming on Prime and crocheting and/or knitting. Don’t know what I will watch yet, but there is a lovely selection to choose from. Good thoughts and positive energy. HUGS

Nope would just be a small one. For now it will be a quiet day for us. Really don’t know what we’re having. Have a great day.

I do love the leftovers! At least the turkey and dressing. But, we are going out to a friends for Thanksgiving this year, so no leftovers….😥. I have several uses for leftovers.. I heat up the turkey (slices or pieces), put mozzarella cheese on it, and then tomato sauce kind of like turkey parmigiana. Then, of course, I love turkey salad with celery, onions and mayo.

I think Wicked is going to stream on Peacock if you have access to that, Delilah.

Personally, I do not like turkey unless it’s fried in peanut oil but even then I rather have the sides and stuffing for leftovers. I much rather have ham with the dressing and such! We usually get our Christmas tree and get it decorated but not sure what we will do this year it will be the first year that my grandmother won’t come to GA in 50 years my mom, sister and I will go to her place in Fl this year. So I won’t even be home with my husband and sons but gram is an amazing 100 year old that is just starting to have a few health issues and she isn’t wanting to make the trip here anymore. I refuse to let this be my possible last Christmas with my last living grandparent and not celebrate with her. Breaks my mommy heart but all 3 of my sons with be working various shifts all through holidays anyway. We have Christmas movies and then Christmas music when we decorate the house just not sure anyone wants to do it here though. I will help do it at Grams if it’s the last for her it will be different but we plan to make it her best. We have been blessed to have her. Much love, thoughts and prayers to you and yours. So sorry I got so wordy again thoughts all over place again.

I wasn’t raised with turkey, we had always done a ham. When I got married my sons in love had to go to 3 different thanksgiving meals, each one with turkey. We never got the boys on any holidays, their mom had dibs and she didn’t compromise. So we started doing it the day after and we do ham, chicken dressing, and all the fixings. They were usually sick of turkey by the time we had ours so Ham made the best church.

Ohhhhhh I love turkey, leftover cold turkey sandwich, potpie, shredded in gravy over mashed potatoes, yummo, happy Thanksgiving everyone

We love turkey so we sometimes buy more than one. Depending on all who show up.
We make turkey rice soup, turkey and gravy over rice, turkey sandwiches, etc.

I don’t care for turkey either. So, I bring ham for myself and the neices and nephews. We are going to my brother’s house this year.

We stopped getting a turkey for Thanksgiving years ago. My family loves pretzel turkey cutlets with honey mustard sauce instead. I will stock up on cheap turkey for my freezer and I will can some of it. No point in skipping over a great deal! And as for all the other leftovers, I purposely overcook some everyone can graze for a few days while recover and clean up.

There were 5 of us growing up. My folks looked for the biggest turkey they could find. Dad started a couple days before prepping for his stuffing. There was as much of that as there was turkey weight. By the time he stuffed it, you could barely lift it to the oven. We had mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (candied and baked), homemade gravy, a veggie , and the impossible pumpkin pie. He would put the turkey in the oven in the wee hours of the morning. The aroma woke us up. Extra stuffing was nuked and left on the stove to munch on until dinner was ready.
Now, just me, I’m getting a turkey breast, making candied sweet potatoes, my dad’s stuffing, and maybe a side. I will make my dad’s turkey ala king with some of the leftovers. A simple recipe of cooked carrots, celery, and onions. with some seasoning added and thickened with a slurry. Serve this over diced toast pieces.
I have nothing planned except November is almost at the top of the slide to Christmas and I am afraid my got-to-do list is greater than the time I have left before Christmas.

5:51 this took me a long time.
I have never eaten turkey. Happy with chicken.

I ususlly try to cook enough to have leftovers – Thanksgiving leftovers are usually for cold turkey sandwiches, hot turkey sandwiches with gravy, a hot plate of everything warmed up and using the turkey carcass to make broth & turkey/veggie soup.

5:54—and I knew what it looked like at the end.

I like turkey but not endless days of leftovers so I only take a small amount for leftovers the next day and make sandwiches then it’s done I can go without it for a while.

Just the usual Thanksgiving dinner. Nothing exciting. With just family

We’re not that fond of turkey either. In fact, I don’t even buy a whole turkey. I buy a fully cooked Butterball smoked turkey breast which is more than enough for my crew. Very few slices of turkey left & none of that nasty dark meat. We also have a ham & eat every left over until it’s all gone. My husband will not let me throw out a bite of the cornbread dressing (that’s stuffing if you don’t live in the south). He will eat any leftovers for days.

yes, soup

The past few T-days haven’t been traditional. No one cared for turkey. So we’ve had other meals we all enjoyed.
Pizza.
Taco bar.
This year we’re having a pot luck (no turkey).
The important thing isn’t the food. It’s that we all get together.

We love our turkey and left overs. Left overs is the best part. We make all kinds of things. I found a recipe for turkey pie. I am going to try that this year. There are a plethora of recipes.

If my daughter was coming, we would send the leftovers home with her and her fiance. I have to work Thanksgiving, as does she, so we are just doing something small when I get home with my husband and my son.

Pack up leftovers as meal plates and freeze, to use for dinners when there’s no time to cook.

Personally I love turkey and leftovers–yummy for all kinds of things including sandwiches, soup, enchiladas, pot pie…

I prefer a small turkey with mostly sides left over. I don’t care for reheated turkey. It always seems to dried out to me.
