As many of my cowboy adventures are, the story’s set in Texas. It takes place in the near-future after war has darkened the sky to perpetual night. Which reminds me of my favorite joke. Okay, so it’s the only joke I ever remember, which is why it’s a joke my family teases me about. (I get gifts of snail figurines)…

In case we forget what today is all about.

I never got why folks would say “Happy” Memorial Day. Seems strange given it’s a day we honor our dead warriors. So instead, I’ll just say, enjoy your day. Play with the kids. Grill some burgers and hot dogs. Swim in the pool. That’s what my plans are.

For those of you who won things in recent weeks, be watching the mail! The red-headed spent Thursday packaging for me, and I went to the Post Office on Friday. So your booty should be arriving soon!

MC didn’t believe that she was really talking to me, so I told her I’d post her letter here to prove it. Hi there, MC!

Argh! I’m looking at my plan for the year, and it looks like I could tackle it this fall. It won’t be as long as the other four DR books, but it will be longer than my usual 25k eBook, because DR fans really loved the deeper world building and I can’t do that in short format. I’ll probably cuss every bit of the way because I find it hard to self-motivate to write a story that long. I’ve needed the fear of an editor’s deadline to keep my ass in the chair. So thanks, JG and MC, for the awesome emails! Grrr…

Branded

The concept for Stormy Wedding was simple. Ellora’s Cave put a shout out about their new Branded line of erotic stories. Branded is a series of erotic tales set within the confines of a marriage.

One of my pet peeves about romance is that the story ends when the marriage begins. And that is where I began my story…at the end…with the wedding. My first-ever erotic story starts at the rehearsal dinner of a wedding and ends in bed. In between dinner and bed, a storm rages outside the wedding venue while a tempest of passion erupts inside.

Why Branded? According to my handy dandy dictionary, branded means (1) a mark burned with a hot iron, as upon cattle, to show ownership. Ouch! And may I say, double ouch. And not the image I want to portray. (2) A trade-mark to show quality or kind. I like that better. (3) To impress deeply upon mind or memory. I like that best. But I do still hear the sizzle of that hot iron, which isn’t all bad.

Good lord, more storms last night—although it did feel portentous given who fell last night (HE, whose name we shall not speak here). It rained and rained and rained. Lightning cracked in our front yard and the power fluttered off then on. I’m hoping school buses can get through the water…
