Here’s a glimpse of Nicolas from the last book, Seduced by Darkness, you remember him—tall, dark and dominant? He and Alex have shared a little more than air and Nic’s still pissed!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Just as he opened the French doors, a gust of air brushed against his back. “Hello, Nic,” he said, turning slowly.

Nicolas stood in shadows, his tall frame bristling with anger. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t raise the alarm now and let the coven know their daywalker is here.”

Alex breathed a sigh of relief. If Nic was taking the time to have a conversation with him, he might actually listen to what he had to say. “Let’s take this outside.”

“And give you a chance to escape into the sky?”

Alex blinked. “You know I’m Born?”

Nic closed in, his lips stretching into a mirthless smile. “Not until you just said it.”

“I’m not trying to keep it a secret from you, but it’s interesting Chessa didn’t give me away.”

“Chessa’s emotions are complex, right now. She’s hormonal. Something to do with her pregnancy, you bastard.”

Alex folded his arms over his chest, pretending he wasn’t already shifting his balance to bolt through the door. “Are you really unhappy about that? Unhappy for her? Or jealous you couldn’t be the one to plant it in her womb?”

Nic’s eyebrows lowered and his hands tightened into fists. “I’m going to kick your ass.”

Beware the place where darkness rules and bloodlust is the ultimate aphrodisiac…

An apocalyptic storm has transformed New Orleans into a city of lawless terror—and Mikaela Jones is standing in the center of the nightmare. A beautiful, courageous journalist with a mysterious past, she sees monsters prowling all around her. But the gravest peril of all awaits Mikaela when she is taken captive by a mesmerizing male who is not mortal—a breathtaking creature who arouses the fire in her blood, making her burn for the exquisite erotic ecstasy of total surrender.

For seven centuries Alex Broussard has been waiting for the chance to free himself from the threat of the matriarchal undead society that seeks his destruction. And now, finally, that time is at hand—until the opportunity is ruined by the stunning, innocent, human interloper Alex is compelled to rescue from certain doom. Now they are joined, for good or ill, as they give in to the burning need that neither can resist—risking everything to experience the ultimate sensual release as the darkness rises all around them.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Here’s an excerpt. Mikaela thinks Alex is an ordinary Joe. She’s already had it up to her neck with vampires, and she’s relieved he came along because she’s “under the influence”…

Moonlight brightened as clouds thinned momentarily, illuminating the white-washed, latticed structure. He climbed the steps, set her on her feet in the center of the planked floor, and then pulled the cushions from the benches lining the outer walls to fashion a makeshift bed.

Miki wrapped her arms around her belly, shivering as she waited. When he’d arranged everything to his satisfaction, he finally looked back at her.

A frisson of alarm quickened her pulse. Gone was the teasing man. Now, she noted just how large he was, how his height loomed over hers, casting a long shadow. The breadth of his shoulders stretched the white, buttoned shirt he wore and didn’t disguise the thick muscles of his arms. Below, his legs, spread and braced on the wooden floor, were encased in dark trousers that hugged thickly hewn thighs.

She wondered who he really was. His hair was a little too long for a businessman. His body was too well built, too honed for a desk job. The dark intensity of his gaze had her guessing he had a more dangerous profession. Bodyguard, professional wrestler, fireman, cop.

Another contest coming…and a brag!
Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Yesterday, I spent the entire day flipping through research books looking for story ideas. Finally, I had to close the books and went for a swim. By the time I’d finished my laps, I had five really cool ideas—including a very strong premise for a YA fantasy novel.

Today, I’m going to plot something sexy and spooky. Mostly I’ll be working in worldbuilding notes. Today’s message from me is short.

Get ready!

I have two releases coming out at the end of this month and I have a great big contest that will begin as soon as my webmistress gives me what I need to get this ball rolling. I’ll need your help to get the word out!

If you’ve been wondering whether you would like Darkness Burning, here’s a review I found on AlienPlaces:

“…if you like a wonderful, sensual celebration of life and love, amazing storytelling, great plotting, powerful worldbuilding, and delightful writing, try [Delilah Devlin]!

Darkness Burning is a fantasy set in post-storm New Orleans, filled with vampires, demons, and other supernatural creatures. Don’t expect any Hollywood monsters in Delilah’s books, though. Her worlds are full of well-researched mythology, of legends based on ancient archetypes and myths that are the very foundation of our imagination.

Her characters are powerful and complex. No cardboard villains here, or white-hat heroes. Good deeds may have unintended repercussions, and sometimes, you must rely on your very enemy at a moment of need. In the best tradition of swashbuckling intrigues, Delilah Devlin creates a larger-than-life cast of characters with motivations that peel away like onion skins. And once you reach the core…

You’ll just have to read it. Because Delilah only promises more at each turn of the road.

And you will want more, because you will fall in love with her characters from the first page, and in lust at the second. Love, lust, need, irresistible attraction, and unstoppable fate mix and weave together to form the lifeblood of Darkness Burning. You can never fully trust your allies, and you must never close your ears to your enemy.

Only love is a certain beacon in darkness.

Or so you think.”

Faeries, a Prediction, and a Lover's Moon
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I had an interesting day yesterday. Spent it in an emergency room rather than with my friends talking Donald Maas. The red-headed hellion is fine, but has a very nice goose egg on her head to go along with the pretty bruises up and down her back.

I did finally start working on my TBR pile. I’m doing my best to conquer Katharine Briggs’s The Fairies in Tradition and Lore. It reads like a textbook but is filled with a huge world of fairy stories. I’m hoping to find that spark of an idea…

And while surfing the other day, looking for some online Tarot instruction since I bought this pack of cards and the book that accompanies it sucks, I found a site that does FREE one-card readings. I submitted my question. Here’s the lovely response I got from “Moonbug”, my spirit guide:

Thank you so much for visiting me at the Free Tarot Network! I am happy to provide you a free one-card reading about your question: ‘Will I get another New York publishing contract before the year is out?’

What I like to do when inquiring of Spirit is to let them take the lead.
Rather than directly asking for a “yes” or “no” about the future, I prefer to ask in this way: ‘What would Spirit like for Deloris to know about her upcoming publishing venture?’ In this way, you allow for the “yes” or “no” if it is in your highest good to be presented to you, but it also allows for the possibility of additional information that may be of benefit about the journey of your contract process. Does that make sense?

So away we go! Before we begin, find a nice place where you can relax and receive the information quietly. Sit comfortably, uncrossing your feet and hands, and then close your eyes and draw in 3 big, deep breaths. Okay, that’s great.

I have drawn the 4 of Swords for you, which is so beautiful—I immediately felt a sense of peace. Swords are the suit of communication and 4 is a number of strength and foundation, so I can see you are in the right field.

Our maiden in the card (that would be you!) rests peacefully, while one sword stands readily at her guard, and the others hang and whisper gently in the evening breeze. The trees create a graceful arch of blossoms overhead, and in the distance, we see a shining star – to me, almost like the north star. I believe this is your contract, my dear.

This card speaks to me, not only of patience, but also of rest. Perhaps you have been working too hard. Take the time to smell the roses (they surround you, as you rest in this picture)! Get out and enjoy life a little this summer, and recapture that basic love that made you want to start writing in the first place. I have found that no matter what the profession, it always pays to go back to the basics.

Rekindle the roots of your fire and nurture the divine feminine in you, and I think your contract will present itself sometime in the fall . . . when the winds begin to blow.

Peace & blessings,
Moonbug

So you heard it from “Spirit”. Good news should come in the Fall. And I signed up to join the network so that I can do one-card readings under a mentor. Should I tell him I’m a newbie? Maybe we could have fun with readings on my blog or during our monthly chat!

And according to The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft, the June moon brings love, marriage (now, we know why women want those June weddings!), and success. So see there? I have double the good news today!
