UPDATE: The winner is…BN!
*~*~*
Today is a special day for me. Penalty Kill, the fourth book in my Locker Room Love series turns three today. It’s hard to believe that it’s been three years already. So, I’m celebrating.
Each book that I write is special to me, but Penalty Kill is extra special because it was written and released during the time the entire world broke—ya know, the height of the pandemic. As a result, I sadly couldn’t give it the usual welcome party. The following year, I was in the middle of writing Future Goals (book #5). This year, I’m preparing for the release of Demon Rodeo, the first book in my Chasing the Buckle series—a spicy, paranormal sports/cowboy (bull riding) romance. Thus, despite how much I love it, Penalty Kill seems to always being getting lost in the shuffle. Well, today, it will shine.
Penalty Kill centers on professional ice hockey veteran Timothée Croneau—one of the best players in the league with a garbage reputation. On the best of days, Timothée is crass and grumpy. And who wouldn’t be seeing how he was unceremoniously and unexpectedly traded to a team ranked dead last? The good part is that the team is located near his hometown of Mandeville, Louisiana. The bad part is that it is near his hometown which places him close enough to be a person of interest in a murder. And not just any murder—his estranged parents.
Sports agent Ryker Kitsch wants to make a name for himself. When he learns that Timothée has recently signed with the firm he works for, Ryker sees it as an opportunity. Since the senior agent representing Timothée has her hands full with other problematic clients, Ryker offers to be her assistant. What Ryker didn’t see was how captivated he would be by the dynamic forward. Timothée is not an ordinary client, and despite his gruff exterior, Ryker has a soft spot for him.
As with most of my novels, Penalty Kill is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Regardless if a reader is a sports fanatic or novice, the sports scenes and jargon is easy to follow. The characters are multicultural and diverse, and the writing is on the sassy side. And if I didn’t mention, it’s spicy; so, not for the kiddies. It also has an author’s note and trigger warning.
If you would like to win a free copy of Penalty Kill, Penalty Kill, comment your favorite sport. One winner will be chosen at random and notified via email. (Please add genevivechamblee@yahoo.com to your contacts or safe mail list to prevent going to spam.) The contest will close on 8/31/24 at 12:01 AM. The winner will have 48 hours from the time of email notification to claim the prize.
That’s a wrap. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section. If you like this post, please click the like button and share. Your feedback allows me to know the content that you want to read.
Demon Rodeo
If Brokeback Mountain, 8 Seconds, Poltergeist, and Supernatural had an orgy, Demon Rodeo would be the lovechild.
My contemporary M/M paranormal sports romance, Demon Rodeo, is releasing on September 5, 2024, and is available now for preorder on Amazon. For video book trailers, visit my TikTok page. The full blurb is on my Instagram and Amazon.
Demon Rodeo is the first book in the Chasing the Buckle series but can be read as a standalone. It’s a friends-to-lovers romance set in the rodeo world. These are not your typical cowboys. It’s a widely diverse cast of characters and a mashup of genres that aren’t always seen together. If you’re looking for a palate cleanser, this may be a book for you. I’m celebrating its release by posting daily on my blog. There will be giveaways and lots of goodies. You can see the videos and PR boxes on TikTok.

Hello Delilah! Thank you for inviting me here today to share my new release! It comes out next week, but I wanted to give your readers a sneak peek. Love on the Clock is a new anthology I’m partaking in, and it is about…wait for it…relationships formed at work. I have to admit I like this setting. You can fit so many tropes into it: enemies-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, rivals-to-lovers… Okay, there are others. But you see what I mean.
I, of course, sought the advice of my Plot Whisperer (I swear I can plot stories on my own, and I have a few coming up that will prove that). Still, I sought help. I needed a short story in a workplace. Oh, and I wanted to set it in the small town I’ve created. And it’s a gay romance. Plot Whisperer rolled her eyes (can you see an eye roll through chat with people on opposite sides of the world? I say you can…). We went through any number of different potential places of employment.
We settled on an architect’s office. With…wait for it…an architect. Then we figured he needed a coworker. Specifically, an interior designer. Oh, and the two had to be complete opposites. The designer is (stereotypically) a peacock, while the architect is strait-laced. Dresses more like a funeral director. Doesn’t do color. Yeah sure…but you know the designer is going to take issue with that.
Throw in a demanding client, a tight deadline, frayed nerves, and a cantankerous photocopy machine and…voila. A rom-com short story set in a workplace.
Man, did I have fun writing these two characters! In my beloved favorite town. The story is so tight that I couldn’t include cameos. Have no fear, though. I suspect these two will turn up again. Anyway, I hope readers fall in love with Orlando and Knight.
Thanks, Delilah, for letting me visit! I would love to offer a $5 Amazon GC to one lucky commenter. Let’s talk settings! I have to write another workplace romance later this year – where would you love to see one set it? Random will pick the winner so go ahead and comment!

The Office Hotshot by Gabbi Grey from Love on the Clock…
Orlando
I’m a go-getter. Right out of interior design school, I’ve landed a plum job in a well-regarded architecture firm, and I’m ready to help the lead architect meet his deadline. Except the man’s a jerk, strung so tight it’s a miracle he hasn’t exploded. Offering a little stress relief is practically a service to humanity. But in the dark in the copy room, Knight’s a lot more human than I thought. Now stress relief isn’t the only thing I want to give him, and I’m dreading the day I’ll have to leave.
Knight
I’m working under a tight deadline, and all I want is peace, quiet, and an assistant who doesn’t give me lip. Right now, I have none of those things. The new hire is perky, pushy, and unfairly attractive. One hot encounter in the copy room isn’t breaking my oath to never get involved with a subordinate, right? Unfortunately, that one interlude leaves me craving more. What’s so special about Orlando, that he’s making me think about breaking all my rules and asking him to stay?
This is a 15k word gay romance novella with a successful architect, a quirky younger interior designer, and a cantankerous photocopier.

On January 21, 2017, Delilah Devlin sent me a rejection letter. I hadn’t had many emails like that in my fledgling writing career. Probably because I hadn’t sent many projects out on submission. If you don’t put yourself out there, then you can’t be rejected. That’s a great theory, but it doesn’t get a newbie writer published. Somehow, in my mind, Delilah gave me brilliant feedback on how to make my short story better. For posterity’s sake, I pulled it up to reread just now. Nope. It’s a standard if kindly written, rejection letter.
It spurred something inside me, though. I took that short story, worked with an editor, and made it better. Eventually, I found a publisher. The Wild Rose Press took a chance on me and published For the Love of Max. The story they published was substantially changed—because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Today, I didn’t reread the old story I submitted because I knew I’d cringe. I meandered way too long before getting to the core of the story. The love scene wasn’t nearly sensual enough. The point of view wasn’t deep enough. Hell, I’d never heard of Deep POV.
I’ve worked with that freelance editor for almost ten years now. She poked, prodded, cajoled, and finally shoved her way into my head. I know what she expects from me. The same thing my readers do—a well-crafted, heartfelt, strong story with great characters. I am more confident now I can deliver that. Do I waver? Type the end and think…is this brilliant or garbage? Yep, all the time. But I keep going. I keep weaving stories, fabricating worlds, and creating characters I know my readers are going to love. Writing isn’t just a hobby—it’s a vocation. I love my day job. One of the reasons I work so hard in it is so I can afford to hire editors, cover designers, and marketing people so that I can keep publishing stories.
Delilah was absolutely right to reject that story. When I spotted that she had another anthology coming out this year, I sat down and wrote “Thought You Were the One.” I actually wrote another story under a different pen name because I wasn’t certain which she might want. I was okay with another two rejections because I know the quality and quantity of stories Delilah gets for her anthologies every year. I sent the stories off and tried really hard not to dwell on the fact my darlings were out on submission.
When Delilah emailed me to let me know I’d made the cut, I yelled so loud that I woke the dogs up. Then I realized she hadn’t told me which story. Ironically, I thought she’d pick the other one. But she didn’t, and I’m so glad to bring representation to this wonderful anthology. I plan to submit more stories in the future. Undoubtedly, there will be more rejections. It’s not personal—sometimes, the story doesn’t fit, sometimes there are too many similar ones, and—gasp—sometimes you just didn’t write a good story. Happens to the best of us. I have more than forty publishing credits, and my editor lobbed one back at me last year and said, “Oh hell, no.”
Wait—I had two editors each lob one back. Huh. So yeah, even when you think you’ve got it all figured out, you discover you’ve written a dud. But I dusted myself back off, have plans to edit and fix those stories, and will keep creating more.
Thank you, Delilah. Both for saying yes and for giving me the space here today to share my story.
I would love to give away a $5 Amazon Gift Card to a commenter. Have you ever faced rejection and found a way around it? Over it? Under it? Moved on? Feel free to share a few words of encouragement with a writer who might be struggling. Random will select the winning commenter.

Hello Delilah! Thank you for welcoming me here today! I’m happy to share news about my latest anthology project. Protect My Heart has brought together a dynamic group of authors writing romantic suspense stories! The premise for these short stories is simple—heroes and heroines. Who doesn’t love a good hero or heroine story?
Naturally, I had to put a twist on that.
Probably not surprising to anyone who knows me and has read my stories—especially the newer ones.
I summoned my Plot Whisperer (and dear friend) and offered her the parameters—some kind of bodyguard/cop/firefighter…something like that. 15k words. I wanted to write a gay romance. I write these because I’m pretty good at it and because I love inclusion. Love is love. Love Without Limits is my personal tagline.
Plot Whisperer…did her magic. And I wound up writing a rom-com with a dash of suspense. It’s not what readers might expect, but it’s certainly something I hope they enjoy! After all, a bodyguard tasked with protecting a Ming vase on a film set isn’t an everyday story. Throw in a designer who doesn’t have a brain-to-mouth filter and sexy times ensue.
Protect My Heart
Protect. Defend. Love?
What do firefighters, bodyguards, marines, and Texas Rangers have in common? They do whatever it takes to keep us safe.
But when Cupid has them in his sights, our protectors land neck deep in trouble. They willingly risk their lives, but dare they risk their hearts?
Protect My Heart is a steamy collection from USA Today best-selling and award-winning romance authors curated by The New Romance Café.

Here I am, a highly-skilled professional bodyguard who’s never lost a client, guarding…a vase. That’s right, home decor. It’s Ming Dynasty and worth a cool three-million, but this TV-show assignment has me bored out of my skull. The set decorator, however, has definitely caught my eye.
Myles
Adding a real Ming vase to my set was brilliant, bringing my legendary flair into play. Of course, the cost of the vase requires a stuffy, all-business, unfairly hot and attractive bodyguard. The urge to tempt Hallsy into some shenanigans is irresistible. Question is, can he resist me?

First, the big news (for me)! We have AC! Yeah, the repairman finally brought out the new compressor and installed it yesterday afternoon (I was nice to him, promise). It took hours to cool the house down from 85 degrees, but we all got to sleep in our own beds; the slumber party was over. I slept like a baby last night, and a good thing, too, because I have a book to finish before Thursday! Wish me luck.
In the meantime, another story in the Delta Fire series was released late last night! It’s a gay romance—and another erotic romance with BDSM elements. I know, I don’t do those often unless there’s a woman involved somewhere, but Noah and Hoyt were perfect for each other and needed each other very much. They were both suffering from a loss. Happy reading! ~DD
Hotter with a Pole

Noah Turner hopes buying the classic ’68 Camaro from a fellow firefighter’s widow will ease some of the grief weighing down his heart. When a noise under the hood sends him looking for a mechanic, he finds so much more. Big and burly Hoyt grabs Noah’s attention right off, and not just because of his bad-boy biker looks and ice-blue eyes. The fact Hoyt is a Dom and a member of Club LaForge certainly interests Noah.
Hoyt Freeman never thought he’d feel that rush with a man again after his partner died, but his body certainly reacts to meeting Noah. LaForge seems like the perfect place to meet and work off some energy and explore this sudden flood of desire. The heat between them starts to burn through their emotional barriers, whether the men are ready to make a deeper connection or not.
Note: This book was previously published.

Hello Delilah! Thank you so much for inviting me to join you today. I have a new release I’m excited to share with you and your readers! Sun, Surf, and Surprises is a short story I just had to write! My publisher put out a call for beach reads. I didn’t have a book lounging about neglected on my laptop, and I didn’t have time to write the story that came to mind—but I did have time to write a short story and to get it in for the deadline.
As always, I consulted my plot whisperer. I said: movie industry, Los Angeles, beach, gay short story. She asked what the most stressful job on a film set is. I said probably executive producer since the buck stops with them. She gave me Jerome. Then she proceeded to give me the story of how he hires an escort to help him unwind during a forced hiatus…and how things go sideways.
Sounds simple, right? I wrote the story, polished it up, and sent it to my editor. She read it, sent it to the senior editor, then came back to me. Turns out (and I didn’t know this) hiring an escort for sex is illegal in California. I was like…uh… (me speechless). Many a gay romance has this plot. And I’m certain a few other romances as well. My editor was firm she didn’t believe Jerome would do anything illegal. She made a persuasive case. More importantly, I’d written this story for them. For this series. I suspected mine would be one of only a handful (if any) of inclusive and diverse stories. I loved Jerome and Alex so much that I made the edits. It didn’t change the essence of the story—a mistaken identity. Working within what was legal in California didn’t take away from the central romance.
I also had to work hard to keep another scene I really liked. That meant adding an additional one which completely didn’t bother me. More writing? Bring it on! Anyway, I’ve patiently waited five months to get Jerome and Alex in front of readers, and I’m thrilled they’re finally here! I hope readers have as much fun reading their story as I did writing it.
Thank you for having me! I would love to give out a copy of my book Valentino in Vancouver. Valentino and his husband, Seamus, have a cameo in Sun, Surf, and Surprises, and I’d love to share that book (or another one from my back catalog). To win, just drop a comment. Is mistaken identity a trope that you enjoy? That you’ve never tried? That you believe has been done too often? Leave a comment and you might win a book!
Sun, Surf, and Surprises
Sometimes a wrong can make a right.
I hate downtime. Detest it. So when our film production shuts down for a week and my boss sends me off to an LA beach house, I’m bouncing off the walls. Hiring an escort to keep me company seems like a creative way to make the time pass faster. And boy, does Alex help me forget about my troubles. He’s sweet and smart, and I’m more hooked on him with every passing hour. Then reality comes crashing in, and I’m afraid I’ll lose him forever.

Hello Delilah! Thank you for inviting me to join you and your readers today. I’m super excited to share my new release with you, Husky Love. This is the fourth book in the multi-author series, Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue set in the fictional town of Gaynor Beach, California.
I was part of the original series, The Single Dads of Gaynor Beach, with three books (because I love single dads?). I loved writing Hugh, Anthony, and Xavier. All three were interracial gay romances with varying degrees of angst. I mean, a single dad’s usually got a story behind that. Anyway, I loved writing those books, and I also loved being in a community of writers with true depth and range. We all came from different backgrounds and even different parts of the world. We all wanted to do something great. I think we did, and the 17-book series is now complete. Just over a year ago, someone asked about a rescue shelter in our fictional town. Our group chat blew up and within a day, Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue was born.
I wanted to write the first book really badly and had an idea ready to go. Love Furever came out in March and readers have really loved the book. Plus, putting a cute guy holding a bulldog puppy in his arms on the cover proved a good idea as well. In the writing of that book, I had a scene where two secondary characters met, and I went…OMG—these two need a book! I didn’t have any notion of how or when I would write the book…I just knew I had to. Fast forward several months and a slot opened up in the series. I leaped at the chance to bring Rob and Danny’s story to life. Danny is the younger brother of James (cover guy) from Love Furever. I had an image of Rob in my mind, but finding the right photo was tough. In the end, I found the husky hugging the guy. From there, all the pieces, including the double entendre, all came together.
I had a book. I lovingly sent it to my beta reader, my editor, and my proofreader. Finally, several weeks ago, I sent it to reviewers. All through the process, I’ve worried whether readers would enjoy the book. Also…this is an animal rescue book…what are the kids doing there? Turns out I needed the kids to tell the single dad story as well as that gorgeous husky named Trouble. And you really have to read the book to find out the evolution of Trouble’s name. Well, my book’s out in the world. I’ll sit back and desperately hope readers enjoy it as much as I loved writing it. This wasn’t an easy story—Rob’s a survivor of domestic violence. This is a book about resiliency and finding another chance at love. It’s a slow burn with moments of humor and moments of dark contemplation. And, of course, a happy ending. Oh, and Zeus. Must mention Zeus.
Thank you for hosting me today! I’d love to give out a $5 Amazon gift card to a random commenter. So far, Friends of Gaynor Beach animal rescue have a couple of dogs, an amazingly talented cat who does tricks, and an iguana. Is there an animal you would love to see rescued? Let me know. If inspiration hits, I might just write that book!
Husky Love
Danny
I may be young, but I’ve done a hell of a lot of growing up in the past year. I watched my big brother deal with the challenges of loving someone, went through some medical stuff myself, and changed my career plans and ultimately, my city. Gaynor Beach is smaller than where I was, but it has two attractions—my brother’s big new house, where he’s letting me live for now, and Rob Dunn. When I met Rob, just, damn. Like my brother, I wanted to help that sweet, stubborn guy and his cute kids get back on their feet. Maybe the rescue husky wasn’t the right gesture, despite Rob’s connection to her, but a dog is love on four paws, and I plan to be there to help all the way.
Rob
I fled my abusive husband with my two kids and the clothes on our backs. I’m grateful every day for the support the Gaynor Beach folks have given us…okay, I’m not sure I’m precisely grateful for the rambunctious young husky Danny Reynolds gave us, but Trouble makes my kids smile, and that’s a big win in my eyes. I’m determined to get back on my feet. I hate relying on other people to help us, but somehow it doesn’t bother me as much when it comes from Danny. It’s nice to have a real friend after all those isolated years, but do I want to keep him in the friend zone?
This slow-burn small-town gay romance novel is about fresh starts, accepting help, two sweet kids, and an adorable husky named Trouble.
