UPDATE: The winner is…Laura Bowles!
*~*~*
I am just popping in to say Happy Labor Day to all of you U.S. residents! It marks the unofficial end to summer and is a national holiday—so the kids are home for the day! We’re keeping it lowkey. The SIL is cooking burgers on the grill. Perhaps we’ll have a movie night (we’re thinking Fall Guy). We’re sticking close to home and to each other.
If you’re celebrating, what are your plans? If you’re not a U.S. resident, do you have a similar holiday? Comment for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card!

International Panic Day is a “mock” holiday meant to give people a day to intentionally de-stress.
I’m all for that! Well, I’m all for another odd holiday and all for destressing! How ’bout you?
I thought making a list of ways I like to destress would be fun…
- 🐈 Pet a pet
- 📻 Listen to music
- ☕ Drink a cup of tea
- 😮💨 Breathe
- 🧘♀️ Meditate
- 🏊♀️ Swim!
- 👭 Spend time with friends
- 🚶♀️ Go for a walk
- 👩⚕️ See a therapist
- 🏝️ Get away from it all!
The last two aren’t things I generally do, but I was struggling to get to 10! I also managed to fit in a puzzle for you all since so many of you enjoy them!
For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, solve the puzzle, then add to my list of 10 or tell me which items on my list you use!

UPDATE: The winner is…Charlene Whitehouse!
*~*~*
Yes, it’s another weird holiday! And such a fun one!
First, raise your hands! How many people here own a sewing machine? Do you own more than one?
We have…three?…in the house. One I purchased. One my daughter brought when she moved in. Another I inherited or was given. It’s been so many years, I don’t remember!
Now, tell me, when was the last time you used yours?
I used mine last when my dd challenged me to make some handkerchiefs for men. We had an idea we would make them using material with superhero patterns then give them away to the cops my SIL works with. We made two. If you can imagine it, we had to look up a YouTube video to remember how to thread the machine! It’s sad because I made clothes with mine back in the day.
So, why do people celebrate the sewing machine? It was an agent of change. No longer did women have to spend long hours to make their family’s clothing or mend their husband’s sleeves. They had an efficient way to take care of that task, which gave them more leisure time—to do what? Maybe dream of doing things outside the home… Yes, a sewing machine can be considered an agent of women’s empowerment! Do you see my Rosie the Riveter arm flex?
It’s Friday. It’s a holiday. Now, I’ll have to figure out how to celebrate. No, I’m not pulling a sewing machine out of a closet. 🙂

First, to all the mothers out there! Happy Mother’s Day!
This was part of my gift from my daughter! She knows I’m a Star Trek girl and had an artist do this up of me with my cat, Tess, Lower Decks style. She had one image framed for my office wall and had a coffee cup made with the image wrapped around it. Such a lovely, thoughtful gift for a nerdy girl like me! The 19-year-old added a funny squeeze-toy/stress ball with an alien that pops out of a spaceship and a small tray with a spaceship hovering over a farm field, sucking up a cow. Yes, they do know me well.
Report Card
Last week…
- I finished one editing job for another author, plus, I worked on three others.
- I finished revising, formatting, and uploading Five Ways ‘Til Sunday, which releases Tuesday. I began revising the next in the Delta Heat series, Fournicopia.
- I worked on art for #The100DayProject.
- My knee is nearly healed, but I have to stop myself from moving full-steam-ahead, because every time I do, I reinjure it. It’s such a pain in the ass.
- So, yeah, I’m light on accomplishments this week. 🙁
This next week…
- I will work on four editing projects for other authors, finishing three!
- I will try to find art for the next anthology, Secret Identities. Plus, I’ll work on the webpage on the Collections site, adding loglines for each author’s story. (This is a repeat from last week, because I didn’t make much progress.)
- I will complete revising the second and third stories in the kink series I’m republishing and get them uploaded.
- I will begin writing my next Montana Bounty Hunter story, the first in the West Yellowstone office, Cyrus. (This is carried over, too. I made NO progress.)
- I will continue creating small art daily for #The100DayProject.
- I’ll work on a gazillion administrative and cleanup duties I need to catch up on. My office is a disaster at the moment.
I really need a vacation…

Happy Eat Cake Day!
It’s another one of those crazy holidays! Only, this one is beginning here—today! I ran a contest in February, where I asked readers to suggest a brand-new holiday. Our friend, flchen (that’s you, Fedora!), suggested this one! We all love cake, so why not have a day of the year that is completely devoted to cake?
To celebrate, there’s a puzzle for you to solve, and of course, there’s a contest! For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, tell me your favorite kind of cake.

UPDATE: The winner is…Pansy Petal!
*~*~*
I know. I’m showing my nerd-side again. But this is an IMPORTANT holiday (to Star Trek fans, anyway)!
It’s the date, in the year 2063, when Vulcans land on Earth and introduce themselves. It’s the day when Earth begins the process of “joining the club” of star-traveling worlds. Such a momentous thing, don’t you think?
I have a love-fear relationship with the idea of aliens arriving. Yes, I read War of the Worlds when I was a kid. I watched the old black and white Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and for years afterward, I had nightmares where my parents were taken over by aliens and smiled those eerie smiles at me.
I also watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind—and yes! I could so be Richard Dreyfus’s character becoming obsessed with messages he couldn’t quite figure out and then happily letting the aliens lead him on board the spaceship at the end.
And then there was the more accessible, highly addictive weekly thrill of Lost in Space and STAR TREK! I always, always wanted to be Captain Kirk’s girlfriend. I was never a Spock girl, but I’d paint myself green and dance for that man.
More likely than Vulcans landing on the planet to make contact, I’m sure Michael Crichton had it right. Our first encounter won’t be with sexy, pointy-eared aliens but with a deadly, extraterrestrial microbe that will infect the human race as in the Andromeda Strain. Go ahead. Pee on my parade.
For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, describe what you think our first encounter with aliens will be like!

*~*~*
Yes, I know. Easter is on Sunday. However, Sunday’s post will be respectful…
So, I wanted to tell a story about something that happened one Easter morning to the Devlin family. Several years ago, when the kids were smaller and my daughter’s family lived across the road, I rushed over in the early morning to help set out the baskets. All went well. The kids woke up and were thrilled with their gifts and candy. Then they headed outside to play while the adults enjoyed coffee. A few minutes later, the youngest child ran back inside, sobbing.
“The Easter Bunny died. He’s dead!”
We all rushed out to see what she was talking about. The long driveway leading to their house was gravel and dirt (we live in the country!). So, when it rained, whereever the gravel wasn’t thick, small mudholes would form. The boy-child was standing beside one of the small muddy potholes with a stick, dragging something from a mudhole. It was a dead rabbit—a large dead rabbit—so covered in mud it looked like a giant chocolate-covered bunny. Yes, of all the days for it to happen, a bunny had croaked and fallen into a pothole on Easter morning!
We had to assure them all it wasn’t the real Easter Bunny and that the “real” one would be back next year.
That’s my Easter story. It’s famous in our family. My daughter and son have another from their childhood, but that’s for another time…
For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, tell me an Easter story or tell me what your family’s practice is/was, if you celebrate Easter.
